I'm not a CV player, but looking at what is happening right now with this CV rework and everyone afraid of what Will happen with the AA being useless. Why not use the odd tier CV as fighters only? We could have matches with two CV per side, being one strike, even tier, and the other AS, odd tier. They could be used to fight the enemy planes, protect the fleet, spot DD, even Smoke up an área. I know many people would complain about It not being Fun, but WG could introduce at least a hability to strafe ships with Machine Guns, It wouldnt be much damage, but at least could damage DD.

What u guys think? I see Saipan being Very strong on this function.

no because Essex was a Fleet Carrier, which meant she had majority strike aircraft on her flight deck and hanger deck. That changed of course with Kamikaze attacks, but that's besides the point.

Keep the odd tier CVs, it's stupid to remove them, except maybe Bogue, get rid of Bogue...

Doesnt matter what we say, WG Will remove them anyway. It would be only a way of keeping them in the game and being of some use for the team.

And they already have plans for adding a second CV line, in a more "support" role, than offensive role, which will further dump over the history of the Essex, because they will be putting a FLEET CARRIER in an Escort Carrier Role.

Why no love for the Bogue?

Because Yorktown Class needs to be in the Tech Tree, so a ship gotta go. Bogue is the choice for me.

I really don't understand the removal of odd tier CV's.  It doesn't even fit in with their stated design of 'making CV's like other ships' since every other ship line in game has a full lineup.  Possibly they didn't want to go through the odd tiers like we have currently where you go up a tier and largely keep the same loadout but...how many ships in game currently are often stated to be "An upgrade to the previous tier"?

Regardless, I think this change is going to go through no matter what we have to say about it.

Ah I see.

On another note, maybe the odd tier line will fall in with the introduction of submarines. Maybe a ASW roll.

yeah, but that'll still dump over the history of the Essex. Escort Carriers were more the submarine hunters, than Fleet Carriers.

Yes, during WW2 they were fleet carriers. It wasn't until later, during the Vietnam war did they serve as ASW. My dad served on the Hornet CV12 which was a Essex class carrier in it's twilight years of service in the mid to late 1960's
