When the Indonesians invaded western New Guinea in the early '60s, the Dutch sent the carrier Karel Doorman to respond, before the Indonesians decided to use Tupolev Tu-16 'Badger' bombers with AS-1 'Kennel' anti-ship missiles to sink her; this prompted the Dutch to back off, and western New Guinea went to Indonesia.

Now, had the KD gone to the Far East, forcing Indonesia's hand, how would have that played out, and what would the ramifications have been for fleet air defenses?
