When you are confronted by multiple targets, which one do you engage?

Factors to consider are which class of ship is nearest, what's their health, and which is the biggest threat.

In addition, choosing a target that is exposing their broadside, less angled, or most vulnerable to your main batteries should also be taken into consideration when you are in command.

When the enemy fleet is closing in, which one do you take aim and fire away at first?

"No captain can do very wrong if he places his ship alongside that of the enemy." - Horatio Nelson, Royal Navy

If I am in a BB I target squishy cruisers first or any BB that is giving a clear broadside.

If I am in a Cruiser I am targeting DDs and BBs first or any squishy Cruiser giving broadside.

If I am in a DD my first goal is to spot, chances are I will meet another DD first so DDs first.

Whichever is the easiest to hit in a way that is likely to lead to the most damage.

Unfortunately the answer for most people seems to be "the CV, even if he has no planes left, is at the limit of my range and is at full health, even if there's a 2000 health enemy ship nearby that would be an easy kill and is actively shooting at me"

If I have a good chance of hitting them, DDs first. Then come low health targets and ships that I can cause good damage to.

Depends on what I am driving. French cruisers....always go after the biggest thing you can see. If I am in the Helena or Marblehead I will actively chase and engage DDs
