Sooooo..... I will have to miss out on the holiday WoWs specials. The next OS upgrade will guarantee I can't play with current client.

I really dislike the way WOWs treats its mac player base. They offer a mac version through their own website and then refuse any and all support for that version. Its insane.

Alternatively you could get a real computer if you intend to play games on it, instead of that expensive typewriter.

Bingo!

The number of people gaming on Mac is so small as to be laughable.

Double Bingo!

To be fair, it is a typewriter with a web browser.

It is not, however, suitable for gaming.

I loved that old "I'm a Mac," "And I'm a PC" ad campaign that loved to frame Macs as the go-to "Fun" computers. Because it's such a bald-faced lie.

"What are you doing today, Mac?"

"Oh, playing some videos, social media stuff. You?"

"Playing every game known to man. Doom, Call of Duty, Starcraft, Overwatch, League of Legends. You know. Nothing major, I'm just compatible with all of the most popular digital entertainment for the past 30 years."

I still don't understand why people spend money on Macs.  For the same price of that half-eaten fruit logo, you could buy and build a much more powerful PC.

That, and all the controversy lately regarding their stance on the 'Right to Repair' stuff.

My parents have Macs. Why? B/c they are computer illiterate and Mac is easy to use for the things senior citizens use PCs for. They're also immune to most viruses.

That's actually not that accurate anymore since Macs have a larger market share these days and, as you said, are often used by the "computer-illiterate" who may be more easily targeted by viruses and phishing scams.

This is a dangerous myth. I clean more viruses off macs every day than I clean off PCs in a month. The reason is because Mac users are complacent in this myth that they're immune while PC users actually take precautions to protect their system.

I remember walking into a best buy 5 years ago. The pc game section was 3 full shelves with multiple titles both popular and not. The mac section was 1 half shelf with only the most recent and most popular. That alone is telling of how great the mac is. Add apples restrictive software practices and its a non starter for me.

It's not insane. They offer a wrapper that emulates a windows environment so that your MacOS can run their Windows-based game in a greatly suboptimal fashion.

Quit watching porn.... Seriously I have used Macs going on 20 years and have had one whole incident of "suspected malware" on mine in all that time. Course I have virus protection and run Snitch.
I can dual boot and run Windows if I want, just hate it so much. Not sure where the love for that comes from, it really is terrible software.

E-mail phishing scams don't care what OS you are using, but for everything else Macs have a track record of being pretty safe. Of course that is still no excuse for not having a robust and regularly updated antivirus suite.

I don't? I work in tech support. This is my job.

And the love for windows comes from the reason you most likely dual-boot into it: Games.

Spoiler: Dual booting windows to play games on your Mac isn't "playing games on your mac". It's playing games on windows.

Nope.  They're not immune, they were just an incredibly small 'market'.  If you're going to code something that breaks laws around the world, and could land you in jail if they caught you, are you going to code it for a dinky percentage of the market, or are you going to code it for the OS that is in almost every office, and on most home PCs in the world?

That, and all the controversy lately regarding their stance on the 'Right to Repair' stuff.

It's a lifestyle product.  The opinion is that Mac users are more sophisticated, upwardly mobile, wine tasting, birkenstock wearing, professionals.  This opinion is propped up by Apple.  Allow the unwashed masses to use their PCs.  It's fine marketing and actually works really well.  Gaming on Mac has always been anemic because there have been Billions of PC users and most gaming companies don't want to bother with full support.  Add to that the easiest way to play games on a Mac is to sit a PC on top.

Running that software is the acknowledgement that Windows has 90+% of the PC video games out there running on it.  Today you can use roughly equivalent office software on Linux, MacOS and Windows.  Games?  Almost all Windows.

That's easy to explain.  "Hey guys I'm thinking of buying a new laptop, I can either get this 13" Macbook with pretty basic hardware for 1500 bucks, or this 17" Dell laptop with more power for 599, which one should I pick?"  MacOS runs well because it's designed to run on one thing, a Mac.  Windows has it's issues because, until Apple switched to x86 cpus, it was required to be able to run on thousands upon thousands of hardware combinations.  The fact that it runs as well as it does is actually pretty amazing.

Yeah I was just poking at you btw.

I loved Windows 2000, I still use it on my laptops. Every version of Windows afterwards sucked. My opinion, don't like them.

My point wasn't about playing on Windows, it was I was playing PC games on my Mac using Windows. Since you are splitting hairs, I feel justified in doing the same.
