The spanish "Z-Plan" (1938 -1943)

according to this source http://forum.axishis...f06d0a26efaf1b5

Spain has had a large fleet building programm, which can be fitted into WoWS's Euro-Tree if there are any paper plans.

Does someone know more about it?

Are there any excisting paper designs ?

in 1938: the spanish Navy Headquater made a study about how the future spanish fleet should look like:

•4 battleships

•4 heavy cruisers

•2 aircraft carriers

•12 light cruisers

•48 destroyers

•48 "torpederos" (small destroyers)

•50 submarines

•Auxiliary units (mine ships, torpedo boats, etc.)

in 1939: the fleet building programm was modified by the Navy Minister Admiral Moreno

•4 battleships.

•2 heavy cruisers

•12 light cruisers

•54 destroyers

•36 torpederos (small destroyers)

•50 submarines

•100 torpedo boats

•Auxiliary ships

in 1943 : the plan was modified again

•4 battleships

•4 aircraft carriers

•8 light cruisers

•12 exploradores (fast cruisers)

•72 destroyers

•36 small destroyers

•50 submarines

•100 torpedo and anti-submarine boats

some additional facts:

spanish BBs have been planned to be based on Littorio class

spanish CVs have been planned to be based on Graf Zeppelin class

Franco wasn't a dum dum. Why exactly he asked for help from the Italians, is something I never did find out.  My guess would be that he didn't want to risk political mumblings from Germany by purchasing from englad, or maybe Italy was just the only nation willing to pony up some plans.  Spanish shipbuilding was a shadow of its former self.

I'v seen designs for the "littorio" based ship,  and there really isn't much to say other than it looks like Littorio.

Germany would probably be unwilling to fork over designs for Graf Zep and that is a really obscure nation to ask for help designing a CV from.  It probably was once again,  help from italy.  Their own carrier, Aquila, (and the late war design to reconstruct sparviero) were based off of Graf Zeppelin. There did have these two designs I know about.  One is a conversion of the Canarias,  the other is a hull up design.   They compare to the Independence/Bogues respectively.   Doesn't sound very impressive, but Spain didn't need a fleet carrier.

The cruisers are all very similar to , take a guess.....Italy....  They would probably share all the same qualities as well.

In all honestly however, I doubt such ambitions would ever seriously be realized.   Spain no longer had anything that really required needed a navy, losing the bulk of their overseas holdings by the early 1900's.  That's why they never rebuilt to the size of their navy during the Spanish-American war.   It'd of been for nationalism only,  don't forget that in this time period,  the Navy was a representation of a nations power.   Maybe a little bit of just "keeping up with the Jones'"  but overall,  such a large plan would be nothing but a waste of money.

The 3 italian designed cruisers.   12 - 6in,  8 - 8in, and 9 - 8in.

I didn't hear about it either.  The only thing I heard that involved Spain was a plan to take away Gibraltar, and use it as a base for the Kriegsmarine.  This said, with possessions in North Africa, Spain still needed a potential navy.
