Picture: Spähkreuzer 1938

Spähkreuzer was the type name of a planned class of large destroyers or reconnaissance cruisers for Nazi Germany's Kriegsmarine.

There were 3 main designs proposed for this ship class, the 1938 design, the 1939 design and the 1940 design. The 1940 design was slightly larger and heavier however it was planned to install a slightly more powerful power plant to keep or exceed the 1938 design performance. Both main designs, along with a few design variations, planned the main artillery layout of 6-5.9 inch guns in 3 double turrets: one positioned on the bow and the remaining 2 on the stern. This was to allow a more offensive retreat, as these vessels were designed to scout ahead of the Plan Z battle groups.

A design designated as 1939 introduced the plan to carry a sea plane in the mid ship area and no torpedoes to facilitate this. The catapult was suggested to be mounted between the 2 funnels of the design, however there never seemed to be line drawings, or blueprints that actually reflect this fact.

The first 3 ships were ordered in February 1941, these were designated SP1, SP2, and SP3, and formally named Z40, Z41, and Z42. The order was placed for the Germania Shipyard in Kiel to build these vessels. In December 1941, 3 engines for SP4, SP5 and SP6 were ordered but not the ships.

SP1 was the only ship for which the keel was laid down and actual construction started. During an air raid in April 1942 the ship plans were destroyed and construction was halted. The metal was scrapped and used to build submarines and regular destroyers that were already further along in their build programs.

Wikipedia~

If this ship was added, would it be a Large Destroyer with a Aircraft? Or a Scout-y Cruiser with DD speed? Have it so a simple Hull upgrade can swap your torpedoes with the ability to fit a Scout Plane?

First you should credit Wikipedia for copy pasting their work word for word.

5.7k tons makes the Spahkreuzer far too large to be a DD. Akizuki for comparison, as it's regarded as being rather large, was 2.7k tons. The Dido class was around 5.7k tons weight.

This looks to me to be a German Yahagi, that would fit best at tier 5, as Konigsberg's poor country bumpkin cousin.

Credited the best I know how.

Konigsberg has 3x3 150mm guns iirc, the back turrets can turn 360 degrees, and it was heavier meaning more health.

The Spahkreuzer at tier 5 would have less health, no 360 back turrets and only 2/3rd the firepower. Spahkreazer could launch a 10 torp broadside, but it would likely be using the G7a T1 torps with only 6 km range, so no stealth torping and not really much advantage over Konigsberg.

So at least to me the spahkreuzer looks like Konigsberg's poor cousin.:Smile_teethhappy:

What it lacked in firepower, made up for in speed and mobility. Two things you want in a DD. XD

Except it will have the concealment of a (small) cruiser vastly outspotted by every real DD. As a DD it will not have citadel and will have smoke to help it. Not sure it would fit at T5 either, could be T6 or even 7 which really makes things look grim.

For future advice; people generally don't like copy-pasting stuff directly. Your best bet, if you want to use someone else's words instead of your own, is to use a quote box, leave a link/cite the source, and then talk about it a little to add your own thoughts. That way, you won't attack nearly as much flak. :Smile_honoring:

Well some cruisers have smoke too.
