Well this will make a bang.:etc_red_button:.

Added a plain text option in spoilers:

Spoiler

ST. New year events.

Dear players!

Steel is a valuable resource that is used to unlock rare ships. At the moment it is awarded only to active participants of Clan and Ranked battles.
After adding steel to the game, we received many requests to make it more obtainable. This is understandable, because not everyone has the opportunity to play in competitive modes effectively and regularly.
To celebrate the New Year we have prepared 4 game events, and by participating in them you will get a lot of great prizes, including some steel.
This doesn't mean that we are now planning to constantly create events like this, but it's the New Year and as you know, this is a time for surprises.

So here's what awaits you:

«In The Name Of His Highness!» event
The new game event «In the Name of His Highness!» is dedicated to the heyday of armored ships of the early 20th century. It will last 4 weeks.
There are 4 stages of the event. Each stage consists of 4 directives. Each Directive contains 10 to 11 tasks. There is a corresponding reward of camouflage, signals, Christmas containers and even steel. And continuing our new year's tradition, the main prize will be a new premium tier VI German battleship - Prinz Eitel Friedrich!
Rules for completing directives are similar to the Royal Navy event. After the completion of all directives, access to the Hall of Fame is unlocked, for which points can be earned in co-op, random, ranked, clan, scenario or special battles.

Snowflakes.
Snowflakes are a one-time new year bonus, which is active as part of update 0.7.12.
The bonus will work on tech-tree ships from tiers V to X and premium and promo ships from tiers II to X. To "blow off a snowflake" from the ship, you need to go into battle in any mode except Training room and win. For this you will receive resources for the Arsenal: coal and steel. The higher the level - the more resources you get. The bonus may be “blown off” only once for each ship during the event.
This means that the more ships you have in the port, the more resources you can get for the Arsenal.

«Mighty Prinz» campaign
This is a temporary thematic campaign that will allow you to earn new year containers for the «Beautiful era» collection and get tier VI tech-tree ships. To participate in this campaign, you will need the battleship Prinz Eitel Friedrich, whose permanent camouflage will be the main reward.

«Steel giants» campaign
It will be available for purchase in the premium store. The campaign is dedicated to the construction of ships in the early 20th century. By completing its tasks and missions, you can get camouflage, signals, «Secret Santa» containers and steel.

In addition, there will be specific combat missions in update 0.7.12, and completing them will get you steel.

Thus, everyone will be able to choose their favourite activities, and we hope that the celebration will be successful. At the same time, the total amount of steel that can be obtained during the new year's activities is not so high as to devalue this rare resource and the efforts of those who earned it by playing in competitive modes.

Please note that the information in the Development Blog is preliminary

ST. New collection

«Beautiful era» temporary collection has been added to the game. It consists of four sub-collections detailing the era of the heyday of the battleships in the early 20th century. It will include badges, stamps, Christmas cards and decorative elements of ships.
Elements of the collection can be found in new special Christmas containers, which can be obtained by performing tasks or directives in the «In The Name of his Highness!» event and in the «Mighty Prinz» campaign.
For completing the collection you will receive a special flag, patch and «Secret Santa» container.

Please note that the information in the Development Blog is preliminary.

time to prepare my butt to systematically play every boat in my port i guess.

I think many players will do the same of course. This is probably intended to drain some credits from the game since many players sell off ships as they move up the tech tree.

It will all depend on how much Steel each tier will earn. That aside, not a bad move.

What worries me is they slid under the table a campaign which you will have to pay for and will reward Steel, dunno what to think about that...

I very like that WG seemed to listen to the player base as to additional means to acquire steel. These proposed approaches sound like fun and hopefully will lead to a meaningful amount of steel. I think that the "Snowflake" event will create a lot of humorous Coop battles as people take out ships that they may not have played in a couple of years with zero point captains.....it should be great fun...

Is WGing trying to BURY us in news?

LOL it would seem so! When politicians do this it is usually to hide a nasty bit of news in a torrent of information so it is best to go thru everything and find out what needs discussing and what does not....

I agree with you DJC, the idea is pretty cool and I look forward to farming the new resources

I have to simply wonder though as to the concept of purchasing a Campaign for steel if the next step in monetizing steel will be a "Go Navy"-type of container approach where one can indirectly buy steel as was the case for coal. Oh and I also expect another Go Navy-type event for another round of indirect coal purchasing.

Smith! Tachibanas (both of you)! Yubari! Ishizuchi! Mikasa! Campbeltown!

Report!

There's so much to do this Christmas... and the Dreadnought giveaway besides! OMG, the free-to-play crowd with enough time on their hands are going to be wetting themselves with excitement.

Yeah this is what worries me a bit as well. WG is on a fine balancing act right now. They have to satisfy the demand for Steel to be more available and at the same time keep it rare enough so it doesn't lose it's value as reward for CB/Ranked.

Kind of interesting how much news has been dropping in the last day.  A lot of it's been disappointing, but this particular announcement's got me interested.  It's nice to see WG realizing how many people don't have the time or inclination for clan battles or ranked.  Not quite sure how to react to the whole purchasable campaign announcement though...

I'm curious how much steel we'd be getting per ship in this.  10 might be a good random guessing point, and I'd doubt WG would give away as much as 50 depending on the tier of the ships.  Think I might be burning a few economic flags and camos with Missouri over the weekend to build up a little extra credits for buying back some older ships, just in case.  Should be able to bank an extra 20-30 million fairly easily over the four day weekend.

I laughed at the thought of an all Tier II Coop battle consisting of just acquired $0.99 Tachibana Limas and Smiths.....

I may be missing something, but I don't think the Printz Eitel Friedrich is a reward ship, just the camo...unless I misread it.

I actually like the idea of selling missions for money as long as they are different than those garnered for free and the rewards are "fair". I doubt the steel rewards will be more than a trickle so the elitists won't raise much a stink. I think a great reward for monied missions would be camos for tech tree ships or maybe some alternate patterns for premiums. Historic flags would be nice as well. There really is lots of ways to make his work out  well for players a Wargaming.

Interesting as I too was thinking it would probably be in the range of 10 to 50 steel units per ship....

Sounds like a good excuse to finally play all those port queens I have but never played- like Kamikaze R, Vampire, Kii. etc.

There's a four week campaign to get the ship, and a permacamo comes as the reward for a separate short campaign (for which I guess you need to buy the ship, unless there is time to both earn it and play the other campaign).

So...do you get steel every time you win, or need to play a different ship after a win to get more steel?

That would be in line with what they have done in the past for sure. Buying the ship ahead of time would allow you more missions/rewards or a faster way to complete the campaign. They have done this over and over again with "free ship missions".

Yes, both Cossack and DoY come to mind, although DoY gave huge numbers of stars for the mission to win itself compared to what Cossack does.

Reading the details on Facebook, a four-week campaign to win a Tier 6 premium doesn't sound TOO bad. The devil will be in the details, namely what the tier and game mode eligibility critera are, and the nature of the tasks. RN, though over-long and with a few over-grindy tasks, has been very well structured in many ways - all tasks in a directive open simultaneously, all being co-op eligible, practically no win* or survival requirements, and open to relatively low-tier ships.

* = I think I've counted TWO tasks so far that required you to win and do something else, and both something elses were trivial even in co-op where a win is almost assured.

So what are the actual details.  All I see in the OP are two little boxes with part of a sentence and a link to Facebook.

I'm sure its also posted somewhere on their own forums

(heavy sarcasm)
