11 Nov 2018 does mark the 100th year anniversary of the ending of World War One.....This is a once in a life time milestone.  We have plenty of WW1 warships to celebrate/commemorate with.

There is an organization taking donations to create the USA's first WW1 memorial.

There is already one in Kansas City.

That being said, there should be one in DC.

11th hour, 11th day, 11th month.  All quiet on the Western front. The men of both sides celebrated together in No Man's Land. Hope there is recognition of that day OP by WG.

My son has gotten an interest in it, definitely.  Interestingly enough, the three main things that led him to that interest were World of Warships, Hearts of Iron, and Europa Universalis.  That and he can discuss those with me, as I've studied both wars, more WWII than WWI, but, you have to study the first war to understand the origins of the second, after all...

Aye, a lot of historians (certified and ammature alike) will often mention that had the repperations/punishments not been so harsh on Germany we wouldn't of had WW2.:fish_book: WW2 was mostly about revenge and tying off lose ends when looked from a writing perspective.

We have the Soldiers and Sailors Monument in downtown Indy.  It is the centerpiece of the city.  It also turns into the "Worlds Largest Christmas Tree" when we string lights from it at Christmastime.

I agree that their should be one in our nations capital.  There is a Korea memorial and a Vietnam memorial.  Are you sure there isn't one for WW1?

Internet checked.  Nope but they are planning one.  Surprising that we don't have one yet.  We celebrate the day.  Armistice Day, Veterans Day...et.al.

Since so many countries celebrate that day, it would be nice if WG did something as well.

Do Russians celebrate it considering they sued for a separate peace?  hmmm...

We have a WWI Memorial here in Unita County Wyoming. (Evanston)

I agree that the Nation is long overdue to honor those who went "Over There" with a Monument in Washington DC.

Well, for one it was the German navy that indirectly ended the war.  The German navy high command ordered the German high seas fleet to go out and engage the much larger British fleet in an "all or nothing" attack.  The German sailors deemed the order a suicide attack and disobeyed the order to the point of mutiny that crept into the civilian populace and evolved into a mini-revolution that pushed the Kaiser and other top military leaders to resign, thus the beginning of the end of the war.  This bit of history should peak WG's interests alone

There's also a frightening amount of denial that things like the Holocaust and landing on the Moon actually happened...even Mythbusters had to weigh in on the latter!

There is already a thread on this subject:

The main reason that the armistice conditions were so stiff was because the Allies didn't trust Germany to avoid 'continuing' the war in the future.  (Remember, it was Germany that  attacked in both wars.)  Germany itself had never been invaded (unless you count some very early Russian forays into E. Prussia) and the German people never felt the consequences of national defeat.  Accordingly, the Allies intended to remove Germany's capability to conduct another war.

It didn't work.

The implication that Germany started WWII as revenge is ludicrous.  Sure, that was the political excuse, but the Germanic zeigeist - until the country was utterly obliterated in WWII - was militaristic and imperialistic.  The National Socialists merely appealed to those aspects of the national character.  Let us pray that the defeat of the central powers in the Fifty Years War (WWs I & II) has put that behind us at last.

For those that are unfamiliar with this wonderful YT series: The Great War.

you can find both large and small memorials around for WW1.  One of the first US troops to die in France was Merle Hay from Iowa.  You can find various memorials to him along the road that was name after him in Des Moines.

with that said, a dedicated memorial in DC would be nice to see, and long overdue.

WW1 in general is not a subject that is well covered now a days.

well mankind has already had what, 5 resets? (samaria, persia, Greece, Rome, "Napoleon era" France).:Smile_sceptic:

I can't go into too much detail because WG would give me a strike/ban but i'll try to word it best i can.:Smile_hiding:

basically the rest Europe and North America are going to be turned into Sweden if things don't change soon. I'll let you go find the info on that yourself.

Doubt it.  WG completely ignored the 100th anniversary of the battle of Jutland in WW1 and you couldn't get more warshippy than that.  It was only after huge forum protests that they belatedly released a Jutland flag that they then charged for.
