I think I'm in love. Stupid me forgot to grab Screenshot of post battle screen. But here's a replay of my first battle in her.20181102_225831_PXSS507-Klaus-V-Teslau_e04_Halloween_2018.wowsreplay

6 Torpedoes in the front, 4 high damage, 2 freezing
4 torpedoes stern, 2 of each.

Decent speed. Wonderful ship Design.

I do think the damage output of those torpedoes are a little high, making it a bit OP, I cannot wait to play this in Hardmode.

Gerfalcon and Killer Whale are currently at odds for favorite submarine now, that's for sure.

Gerfalcon has its Aft Tubes off to the sides, while Killer Whale has them centerline. I know that's not enough to determine all time favorite.

I fell in Love with Gerfalcon after the first battle in her as well. So the fact that I am in love with Killer Whale is not surprising. Those Aft tubes seal the deal for me on both ships. Though even with Killer Whale they were a bit of a pain. Maybe after a couple more battles in her, I'll have my answer on which I like more (it'll be a matter of which I feel is more friendly).

I rambled on enough now. OH MY GOSH I AM LOVING SUBS MORE THAN I THOUGHT I WOULD! I still think they shouldn't be brought to PvP, though they are likely to come to PvP.

What you're playing I think is what WoWs might consider one of the higher-tier subs. You have everything- rear tubes, a gun, decent performance. I'm still working to unlock the Killer Whale myself but in Public testing it was the top. It felt a little unwieldy because of how big it was, but it had everything you wanted.

Seelowe I think is the most favored sub, though I've seen a good spread of the other classes in every game I've played so far. I really can't wait for the challenge of taking these against live opponents. I'm pushing the boundaries of the scenario now by challenging destroyers and cruisers (especially the destroyers) within the lagoon. Wish I had other boat friends to run distractions too.

Yeah, can't wait for these to go live. But I still think they should be in their own separate game mode, and not thrown into randoms.

And yeah, Killer Whale most certainly feels like a higher tier ship than the rest of them.

Can't wait to give Hardmode a try with these ships. Who knows Zipper's fast dive/surface might be more useful (in my opinion), in hardmode.

I think they can work in random pvp mode, but likely capped at 2 or 3 like CVs have now. I think everyone's overestimating these boats- as they are now they probably can't carry a match on their own but they have a place on the fringe.

And if they could carry... that's the problem subs are going to face. Too powerful and they're imbalanced, but too weak and people would say they weren't worth it. There's no winning.

Hard mode should be good. Hopefully it'll be less preprogrammed courses plotted and more random destroyers and cruisers coming after us. I say bring them on!

Honestly, all the bodges that are necessary to make them work in the event make me think they're not coming to live. We have a bunch of fairly fast subs, with their best of underwater/surfaced speed  in both and then an additional 25% speed on top of that. And they get more powerful torps than all non-IJN 533mm torps.

It'd be cool, but you'd need to dig way into the 60's to get subs that would really match up and most nations don't have it. Even with these buffs, we're already using the best Nazi super-science had to offer to get a sub that fights fairly in a Tier VIII operation. Getting a T10 sub would require using stuff like Skipjack/November/Dreadnought, which leaves us kind of short on nations that can compete.

There was talk when Subs hit PT about the Skate being the highest ship in the USN line, probably with Nautilus as a premium. We have no idea what WG would consider for tech trees, it's possible they don't know. And what we're playing might represent tier 6-7. Whose to say?

This is also an arcade game that doesn't adhere strictly to reality. Since I'm not a history buff, as long as they give us something that looks like a Baolo or Type 7, I'll play it. I like the mechanics I see in this special event test- I'll give up battery guns and smoke for torpedoes and submergence.

There are also a few submarines that would be novel to try playing with, like any of the Submarine cruisers (Surcouf , M-Class).

Now that I have played at least one game in the modern Killer whale... I will agree, it's the best of the submarines.

It has essentially everything every other submarine has. Quick surface/submerge from the Zipper (though not to a comical degree of the Zipper)? Check. Powerful forward torpedoes out of the Seelowe with useless AA mounts? Check. Gyrfalcon's rear torpedoes with high speed? Check. Usable deck guns as finishers from the Barracuda? Check.

About the only disadvantage over the Seelowe is that the forward damage torpedoes are not two different systems and therefore reload twice as much. The damage appears to be comperable though- one torp of each type out of the Killer Whale will sink one of the Zikasas. 6 kills on my first outing.

I still think the best way to handle them would be a "subs vs escorts" mode, where submarine players try to sink a convoy and DE/corvette players try to stop them. That would also allow for a bunch of surface ship classes that were very important to WW2 but really have no place in the main game because they're too small and slow.

If map size is scaled to their speed, subs could still be fun to play without needing magic engines that let them zoom around like they're a Russian DD.

I forget all the details from the PT but as I recall the main difference between the 2 missions was the amount of time you had to discover the castle in order to get 5 stars. I forget what the difference was right now but remember noting it was a substantial amount.
