What vessel were you in command of when your actions changed the course of the battle?

Often times, capturing an objective, defending a base, or sinking an enemy vessel can change the tide of the battle.

Recalling those actions and the ship you commanded help inspire the community that momentum is just as important as ship count and point totals.

What actions did you perform to swing the tide of the battle in your favor and which vessel carried you to victory?

"Duty is the great business of a sea officer; all private considerations must give way to it, however painful it may be." - Horatio Nelson, Royal Navy

Le Terrible - 5 torp hits on a Bismark. 1 Salvo of HE to finish her. Did the same to an Alabama and Nagato.

Game heading for a loss, I am bottom Tier in Scharnhorst, badly damaged and being engaged closely by a lightly damaged Friedrich der Große.  I fire a spread of torpedoes where I think he'll go, not where the white cone says he'll go.  He takes a single hit near the A turret and explodes due to a magazine detonation.

We go on to win a close fought game and my Scharnhorst is one of only two or three (I don't recall) ships on our side to survive.  Without that lucky torpedo hit we'd have lost, no doubt.

Fun and engaging, right?

(I haven't played Scharnhorst much as it isn't very fun in my experience.  That is the only torpedo hit I have ever gotten with her.)

I want to reply to the daily questions with something original, but there are only so many ways I can spell Graf Zeppelin.

As for question 2, I sank stuff. 1st blood is a very helpful contribution to whichever team I am on, as it acts as a (de)morale(izing) boosting spur. Then, sink more "stuff" as required, deal obscene amounts of dmg, try to cap or at least contest caps (in Zeppelin cruiser mode) if required.

Spoiler

Despite appearances, I sometimes play other ships (so no, I am not 100% obsessed with one ship), today I had fun with Belfast, and struggled with Jutland (doing zero dmg but keeping 3 x bb and a minotaur busy most of a battle).

Clan Wars, 2nd Season. My team was up against one of the [PNG] clans. They managed to kill everyone except myself, but we held the line long enough to score more points than them. However, I was low on health and had to start running and hiding, but fired a spread of torpedoes into our only cap, which soon began to fall. However, one of my torpedoes hit something, namely, an enemy Zao. With the clock ticking down, him on equally low health, and the enemy starting to bear down on me, I opened up, and somehow won the DPM race before the rest could start landing hits, pushing my team above 1,000 points and clinching the win.

last Sunday I was driving Vampire in a Solomon Islands map, Standard battle. As usual in a Standard battle most of my team rushed off to cap the Red base leaving only 2 Cruisers to defend. I was covering the gap between the islands. The Cruisers got wasted by 2 BBs, a Kaiser and South Carolina leaving our base defenseless. I hauled [edited]through the gap to see if I could delay them. I loosed off torps at the Kaiser (1 hit) and popped smoke to cover my getaway. To my surprise the BBs turned around! I made more torpedo attacks (no hits) until botes from my team started capturing the Red base. We won. I'm still surprised that I was able to defend a base from 2 BBs with a 'lil ole DD.

Fujin - rough start, spotted early for heavy damage, team started to collapse, managed to spend rest of match unspotted and get a kraken that won the game.

Tirpitz - enemy had 2 caps, took some heavy damage, managed to isolate self against tier 9/10 German BB and Monarch  - drew their fire, closed range and torped both of them as they were on both sides - killed both and that cleared B and was when the team really started to roll the enemy so, worthy trade in my mind.

Hak - managed to clear out enemy planes despite being full stock (other than slot 1 and 3 fighter upgrades) - then proceeded to terrorize the enemy team who's AA was getting low.

Lex - Had a match where I could not score solid hits, very low damage, however while I struggled to get hits - I still managed to use my TB's to force enemy ships to turn (mostly cruiser/DD match) - which turned them into teammates torps and broadside to ships that then deleted them.

Shimakaze - terrible as the spotting time is on the torps, had a match where I was launching one tube at a time, and was still hitting targets, which killed them or kept them off caps because every time they tried to Radar me, I ran for cover and had a team that because they started shooting at me - shot back at them.

Balt or Buff - forget which, but I charged the French BB with 3.5 kills (he had hammered another cruiser but someone else finished the other half) that was a tier or two higher, managed to get around him and then just out run his main turrets and slam AP into his sides.

Musashi - two cases in more recent weeks - One in which I kept playing chicken with Red BB's who turned way early and gave me the side of the ship so I put AP rounds in around turret 2, usually for citadels, and another in which I disable several main batteries.

Almost every ship/line has at least 1 story where I've ended up top of the team from some last ditch/minute plan or push breaking the enemies will, defenses, or keyboards as they call me a hacker (namely stealth torping in one of the mid tier USN DD's cause angles on that last one)

I wouldn't know what this feels like, I sail USN Heavy Cruisers.

Does complete incompetence by the enemy leading to victory count.

My final game in Ranked Sprint; Gremyashy.

Spotted and pinned the only enemy destroyer against an island, pummmeling it to bits, die to a devstrike from a GC...

Seriously; SERIOUSLY salty, but for once kept my chat shut and just watched.

Destroyer got off the rocks, but was finished off seconds later by; of all things; an Emerald.

Free from being hounded by a high concealment enemy destroyer, (Minekaze,) it became a slow grind to a win; and getting to R1.

(Right or wrong; I’d like to think dying to set up the Red destroyer to be eliminated led to victory...

...it makes getting carried to R1 less painful...)

The most recent "pivotal moment" game I can remember was a week ago in my Massachusetts on the map Haven, standard game mode.

The team split a little heavy favoring the west side. Most the BBs seemed to follow me in that direction. Approx about 4-5 minutes in, the East flank had completely collapsed. I noticed immediately and starting turning back towards our cap. Maybe 30 seconds later, my cap begins to be captured. I ping it twice, just to get the west side aware "hey east side is completely gone, and our cap is being captured". (If I wouldnt of pinged the cap point, I dont think anyone but me and maybe 1 other BB would of noticed). Im slowly chugging along with 2 BBs and maybe a cruiser in tow, we were already down by maybe 3-4 ships. Im getting closer but the cap is getting dangerously close to secure a win for the enemy. I see 2 BBs, and 2 smoked areas. I begin to realize there is at least  4 ships sitting in our cap at this point. Im maybe 1km out now from my cap, telling my sweet Massachusetts; "WE NEED MORE POWER, SCOTTY!|". I reach and enter it with probably .5 seconds remaining before we lost, I couldnt even see any green on the base icon.

After that I just do my secondary brawling/destroy the 2 BBs. Do a torp beat dance to avoid a set of DD torps and another set of cruiser torps, i think I still take 2 torps.  Me and the few ships who came back clear out the cap. And then proceed to win the game.

The pivotal moment was recognizing the east flank had fallen and immediately turning back to my cap (I was the most forward pushed BB on the other flank, but yet was the first to turn and first to enter and defend the cap).

Situational awareness (the general term, not game term) helps folks. Look at your mini map and assess the ever changing situation once in awhile.

Have had a number of moments in Izumo and Yamato where simply being there and firing from a good position made several ships turn around. Its great when I can hold a cap against 3 or 4 ships. Its even better when they are so worried about me that they get torped to death by my teammates.
