While I was playing WoWs, the BIGGEST earthquake to hit my neck of woods in decades hit... and I couldn't do a thing except keep on playing...

The walls shook, the monitor shook, EVERYTHING shook.... 6.2 magnitude it was, not just one, but two, with minor shaking in-between.

According to my wife ...a few things fell off shelves but nothing in the man cave thank goodness, $20,000 in electronics could have been ruined in they had fallen off the shelves. The cat had to be cuddled... and my nerves are still on edge.

They do not call New Zealand the shaky isles for nothing, 2000 quakes a day, most barely perceptible.

Still VERY nervy.... expecting more shaking ....nerves... :(

That there is the real-life volcano they used for Mount Doom in Lord of the Rings.

The main reason I left California.

Take care of yourself as there is nothing you can do when the ground is mooving....

Regarding all the above comments....

1) Yes, but try Islands.

2) I will stay safe, thanks.

3) I am not far from New Zealand's super volcano, Lake Taupo used to be a mountain buy exploded about 3,000 years ago. It covered the entire globe with ash in the atmosphere.
If that explodes, then half of the people here would die instantly. Auckland, further north, is built on numerous extinct volcanoes that MIGHT not be that extinct....

4) except pray to the God Thor to save you. :)

It was very scary. Everyone is now expecting more shakes and ... I'm glad I'm moving to Holland next year! :)

Well let’s see since Lord of the Rings was filmed in New Zealand it could be any of the following...

Actually very funny. Our cat, named Garfield, was born just before 9/11 2001, he sat on my lap biting my hand while I watched the drama unfold on my TV so he is really old, he "lives" in this old fibre glass canoe we have so had there been a Tsunami, he would have been very safe (despite the fact we live a long distance inland!). He really was worried as it was the biggest quake he has ever felt.

Cats are family too... he deserved a cuddle for being brave, just like that cat in your video. :cat_paw:

It wouldn't be Smaug. The only on-location shots in the Hobbit films are the same green-screens that they used for the Star Wars prequels. The CG quality (or lack thereof) hasn't changed one bit.

I'd also like to add that you forgot Sean Bean's theory on what happened.

I've been in two very minor earthquakes and seen a tornado about 3 blocks from my house.

I'd rather have the tornado.

Take care Kiwi.

There are basically four things I am genuinely scared of: Getting lost, big spiders, dying alone, and tornadoes. I am f*cking terrified of tornadoes.

Being in Kansas for 40 years, I know what to do with tornadoes.

Something with no warning (like an earthquake) terrifies me.

I've been in a few quakes and may have this one in my future.

My area also has this in our future.
