About this time last year, I had British cruisers up to Tier VI or and pretty much nothing else beyond Tier II or tier III. And then North Cape happened, and it was a wake-up call that having only British cruisers up to eligible tiers wasn't going to work and I needed to broaden my horizons. At the time, I was free-to-play and thought I was going to stay that way

Of the ships that were in the game AT THAT TIME, I have since added (and still possess) the following from the tech tree (unless otherwise stated, all were ground up to without FXP bypass):

Battleships - QE, KGV.

Destroyers - Wakatake, Isokaze, Farragut, Mahan.

Cruisers - Fiji, Edinburgh, Neptune, Tier VI Cleveland, Tier VII Pensacola (prior to split), Bogatyr, Friant, Konigsberg, Nurnberg, Furutaka. (Free XP'd to Aoba for a task, bought her, used her, sold her again). Black Swan, for what that's worth.

Aircraft carriers - Langley (free xp'd through the battleships to get her and see what carrier play was like).

Of ships subsequently added to the game since then, from the tech tree:

Battleships - Turenne, Bretagne (early unlock), Normandie (early unlock), Lyon (ground out from Normandie).

Cruisers - Dallas, Helena, Tier VII New Orleans (from split), Tier VIII Baltimore (ground through NO), Tier VIII Cleveland (from split).

Destroyers - Medea, Valkyrie, Acasta (early unlock), Icarus (early unlock), Fushun.

Freebies: Warspite (technically I bought her first, but later earned her for Sovereigns in the RN event), Tachibana Lima (from an event), Varyag (from an event), Vampire (from event), Indianapolis (from Marathon), Aigle (coal), Campbeltown (coal), Nelson (Free XP ground out or won through various means without paying money).

All that without spending a cent. I have, of course, bought permanent camo for many of the above and I have also premium ships: Warspite, Ishizuchi, Texas, Graf Spee, Anshan, Ishizuchi, Scharnhorst, Yubari (a couple of months before the Arsenal made her free, LOL), Tachibana (just before the Lima event, LOL), Gallant, Monaghan and Smith. But even without them, I have a pretty well-rounded fleet - and all three of Yubari, Warspite and (from a functional perspective) Tachibana could have been free if I had elected to keep my wallet shut.

And the Cleveland, Pensacola, Baltimore, New Orleans, Normandie and Helena all wear permanent camo that was either won in game or bought with doubloons won in game (Pensacola double-dipped the Tier VI camo when the split came). And Monarch, when she arrives, will also be so equipped.

I think I got the diversification I was looking for. It's been a hard grind at times, and I'm sure there'll be more hard grinding to come, but even the tech tree ships on their own are not at all a bad fleet.

Since I started (my profile says June of 2015, can't believe it's been that long), I've been grinding all the lines.  Started mainly with the IJN and US, then the German and Russian.  For those I'm at T7 or T8 on most lines (BB, CA/CL, DD), with most of the premiums (started out with the Tirpitz, just expanded from there). Then the UK and French lines, with the Pan-Asian DD line and the Italian premiums.   UK and French I'm finally up to the T7/T8 range; haven't done much on the Pan-Asian DDs though (maybe T3 or T4?)..  Also a plethora of free ships from the various WG opportunities (working on the Cossack now of course).

I was able to save up the free xp to get the MO, and have enjoyed playing that on occasions, and just recently pulled the trigger on the Musashi with coal.  Still have enough free XP for the Alaska if/when she comes out I think (over 1,000,000), although I might pull the trigger and get the Nelson soon. The coal is starting to add up again also (I keep going for the resource boxes as I earn them).

So I'm similarly diversified, and just doing the slow (very slow I'm sure most would think) grind.  T8 takes awhile, although I keep cycling through my ships and see T9 on a few lines shortly (end of the year maybe).  I should get the Chappy next.

No She-no-know-me from the campaign yet?

My wallet has been opened way too much and my diversification is in 63 premiums. I have 32 captains of my favorite tech tree ships at 19 points.

Too lazy to grind ship lines but having fun playing boats!

Alas, not. I had thought to grind hard for it this year, but numerous events including the Indianapolis Marathon and the Cossack grind offered what IMO were far richer prizes that fitted in better with my existing fleet, and were much easier to tackle in lower tiers. Plus all I currently have at Tier VIII is cruisers... so once again, lack of diversification at a given tier is crippling me, LOL.

So my goals for the rest of the year are to get the Cossack, and then to finish off either the Lyon to get Richelieu or the KGV to get Monarch, probably the latter as I have the Congratulatory permacamo for her from arsenal crates and that gives me the service-fee discount. Then I will have a CL, CA, DD and BB at Tier VIII and a broader range of ships with which to tackle things at leisure.

Basic goals for the end of next year are Daring and Minotaur. US cruisers stop where they are now. Pan-Asians go no higher than Gadjah Mada, because the rest is basically US destroyers anyway. Everything else gets assessed on its merits after all that is complete, and carriers get looked at more seriously once the rework is done. My opinion on that one is generally optimistic, and if it's anything like what I hope it will be I see no reason why I shouldn't eventually take carriers to Tier VIII as well.

But as you grind all those lines you just need to accept those Shinonome missions - even if you repeat stars - you might find a Christmas bonus in port. Those missions don't conflict with your stated goals. She is a good ship. Slow, but deadly with those torps.

Good luck in your endeavors, regardless!

I've had ships ADHD from the beginning...  Playing ALLLLL the lines.  I finally had to ignore many of them and focus on fewer if I wanted to get to the WW II ships before I retired, lol.   Still, I have around 160 ships in port.

US BB and CA: tier 10

German CA's and French BB: tier 9

French cruisers and US and Russian DD's (both lines) German BB: tier 8

Japanese and Russian Cruisers and RN BB's:  tier 7

Pan Asian DD's; US CL's; RN CL; IJN BB: tier 6

German DD:  tier 4

Japanese DD: tier 3

and an ungodly # of premiums- the majority of which I never play.

Of those, IJN DD's; RN CL's and BB's, and German BB's are as high as they'll ever get.   Don't like IJN DD's- at ALL.  RN lines are nothing but floating gimmicks, and don't interest me at all.  Hood and KGV see occasional playtime but that's all.  German BB accuracy makes my head want to explode, and Bismarck was the only one I really wanted anyway.  (and was a bitter disappointment)   RN DD's are a total non starter, but I do have all four of the early access ships. (never played)

IJN BB's have been on a loooooonnnnnnngggggg hiatus.  I literally got Fuso more than a year and a half ago and still haven't played it, lol.

Myoko is being worked on now.  Not my favorite, but it's pretty effective!  Don't know if I want to push all the way up the line or not.

I like German DD's, but the everlasting tsunami of missions requitring t5 and up discourages much play in the low tiers- where I'm at with this line now.

Pan Asian DD's have been really fun, too- esp the tier 5!  The tier 6 is yet another Gnevny clone- my least favorite of all DD- so it rarely gets played.  I may just FXP to Gadja Mada, as I really want that one.

I stopped US DD's at Benson, because the pve DD meta is so horrific in the high tiers.  LOVE the ship- it's just not worth the rage to play it.  The line in it's entirety has been awesome, and each new ship quickly became my favorite.   Sims comes close to topping my list of favorite premiums ever!

Russian cruisers? I dunno.  It took several tries, and the better part of 2 years to finish Buddyony.   Eventually, it clicked and I powered through the rest of the XP required.  Not really a favorite, though.  Schors is in port, but not played yet.

That leaves French BB's and cruisers; German cruisers; and Russian DD's as possible grinds.   Republique and Hindenburg WILL be in my port sooner or later!   Henri IV is a strong possibility, too.   Rus DD's face the same pve  "F%$# YOU, DD!!!!" meta as any others, though.   Thus, it's likely that Khab; Groz, Gearing, Fletcher etc will never see my port.   Which is too bad, as Fletcher was THE ship I wanted to play since I first started... (aside from Des Moines!)  I have, and have played Kidd- and, nope!  Too much KY required to play it in co-op, for no reward or fun...

Whoops- forgot US CL's.   Currently working on this, but not enjoying it at all.   Dallas is my favorite tier 6 cruiser ever- but it gets utterly $hat on by the current meta.   Like Benson, playing it is an exercise in frustration.  However, I WANT the tier 7!!!!!  And the WOOOster.   I think I'll just stick to playing Dallas in OPS when a good one comes up.

Was kind of hoping the was a thread about the Black Ships.

From the point of view of having two of the same and speccing them differently? My Tachibana and Tachibana Lima have captains specialised for torpedoes and guns respectively, so I sort of see the attraction of the Black Premiums, but I am enough of a cheapskate that I'm not going there. Tachi Lima I won for nothing in-game shortly after paying full price for the Tachi, specifically so I could test that dichotomy... but then the Indy Marathon happened, and I have had no rest from Tier 5-plus events since. After Cossack is done, I'm chilling for a bit, though.

Let me first say that I really enjoy "Random Thoughts".  Thanks for posting them.

When I first started (around this time last year) I really spread my butter over way too much toast.  Diversification was the name of the game from the very start.  I was always short on cash (credits) but I didn't lack for variety in my fleet.  I was working every cruiser and battleship line in the game.  When a new cruiser or battleship line came out, I jumped on that bandwagon as quickly as I could.

My first actual ship purchase was the HSF Graf Spee.  At the time, my next highest tier ship was the South Carolina I think.  So yeah, bit of a jump there.  My best premium purchase would have to be the Indianapolis.  Not the best ship, but factoring in the doubloons and signal flags I paid negative 2 dollars for her.  I paid $63 and the bundle had 10000 doubloons and 100 of each economic flag.  At the rate I was purchasing doubloons (3000 for $14.97) that works out to $65 dollars total value BEFORE you factor in the ship, the captain and the port slot.  Of course, the Santa crates from last Christmas were too good to pass up.  I got an Alabama, a Kutuzov, a Loyang, an Anshan, a Dunkirk, an Okhotnik, a Gallant and an Arizona.  I also scored 360 days of premium time and 400 Frosty Fir Tree camos.  You might say that Santa was very good to me.  :Smile_great:

Fast forward to now and my top tech tree ships are:

North Carolina, Bismarck, Richelieu and Cleveland.  Bismarck was my first tech tree tier 8.  Freddy the Great will probably be my first tier 9.

I have a Kronstadt (free xp), a Nelson (free xp) and a Musashi (coal).  I currently have 715000 free xp (all earned, none purchased) waiting on either the Alaska or the Jean Bart.

In the last couple of months I have gotten my feet wet with destroyers and now have a Mahan, a Gnevney, and a Jervis as my top tier ships.  Dynamo really helped with the advancement in the US line.

I didn't sell any ship tier 6 or above (except for Colorado).

I just counted my premium ships and I have 27 of them.  73 ships total and not a single CV in the lot.

So, yeah, diverse might be a fair characterization of my current fleet.  :Smile_Default:

I spend way too much time and money on this game.  :Smile_playing:

I was more going for Human Resources humor. But, sure!  Can’t think of a single premium that I would like to have an alternate setup for, though.  Tech trees ships? Absolutely, but no premiums.
