Forum not fully IE10 compatible?

So, i just got at work to find out all workstations have been migrated to Windows 8. Which is fun...only to find out that when i type a new post here the enter button doesn't work in the "fancy" editing mode. But if i use the little switch button to go to basic mode the enter button works fine.

Anyone else having this problem?

EDIT - problem seems to be related to IE10, tested it at home with a windows 7 pc with the preview version of IE10 installed, and had the same problem

Steps to reproduce:

1. Go to forums with a Windows PC using Internet Explorer 10 (so that would be Windows 8 or Windows 7 with the latest IE installed)

2. Hit the REPLY button or create a new topic

3. Make sure your editing window is in "fancy" mode (with all the edit and smiley buttons enabled)

4. Type some text and hit the enter button

5. BEHOLD! No new line!

IF ENTER DOESN'T WORK AT THIS POINT:

6. Go to basic editing mode (hit the switch button on the upper left corner of the editing window)

7. Hit enter again

8. IT WORKS!!!!!

LoL, compatibility issues were always on M$ side, not internet side.

Try a different browser, this problem shouldn't have anything to do with OS.

Can't install a different browser here (as it's a workstation of my employer and don't have admin rights), but still, it SHOULD be compatible with the new IE.

I have a very simple and effective solution to this; Don't use windows 8  :Smile_trollface:

But seriously; don't use IE and everything will work.

Boot some pendrive linux if you have BIOS access  :Smile_trollface: .

But seriously, try cleaning cookies etc - i think it is some config/trash problem, not W8 or IE.

It's a clean install, and it didn't work the first time i entered the forums with this machine, so that pretty much rules out cookies. And as it only happens with the "fancy" editing mode (basic version works just fine) i think it's a compatibility problem with IE10. Has anyone tried the preview version of IE10 on Windows 7?

I guess it limits to this install ;) . Blocking options? Flash interferes? Java? It happens sometimes on all platforms and all browsers, with various forums.

And how did you come to that conclusion? Do you have Windows 8 with IE10 yourself? As PG908 just indicated that he has the same problem it's obviously NOT just this install. And there are no plugins installed, only an AVG virus scanner and MS Office.

Or IE10 is considered the next bugfix for IE9??

I have Vista on this and I'm getting 7 on my new one. I don't like the look of Windows 8.

.....   *facepalm*

Whether you like or dislike Internet Explorer is not the issue here.  It might not be the brower that users like the most, but it is still the one most programs run around.  Also, for those who have a clear reading problem, the OP said that he was using his work computer, and also in most cases, your work environment doesn't allow you to add additional programs, including other browsers.

This.

For those bashing IE: please get out of my thread because i'm getting a bit tired of it TBH. If found a possible bug OR incompatebility problem with the combination Win8, IE10 and this forum and i'm trying to figure out what the problem is (and as PG908 posted more people seem to have this problem) so that everybody can enjoy what this forum has to offer.

So, please be constructive or go spam somewhere else.

Actually, it's IE10 that's the problem (or the forums compatebility with it), just installed IE10 on my Win7 PC and having the same problem: unable to use enter to go to a new line. (unless i go to basic editing mode with the switch button)

Chrome works fine, as usual.

I'm still wrapping my head around a business switching their workstations to windows 8.

Around here that is not even being talked about let alone done. Here our manager types just got "experimental" iPads last month.

I can't decide whether you are lucky or unlucky to be ahead of our curve.

Well, after one day of using win8 i can safely say that i already hate it with a passion. EVERYTHING you know of windows and how it works is pretty much discarded in favour of some awful tablet look with a desktop tacked on to please the PC users.

So, no, i do not like it. Windows 7 with the bootup speed of win8 would be nice though!

Oh goody. I mean I've been at this since DOS 2.0 and my first work PC was an IBM PS2 model 30 (so called because it had a 30 megabyte hard drive) so moving to a new operating system is substantially less traumatic than moving to a new house. But still . . .

I'd be interested to know what you think after a week or two.
