I was in game and was asked, "Are you really an ensign?"

Or another game in which I asked a user named captain Evan's, "Earnie Evans?" He told me, "In two years, you are the only one to get that reference."

My cultural references are becoming outdated. Anyone have similar experiences?

Yeah.  When someone is going off on a particularly asinine rant in chat, I like to come back with "Lighten up, Francis."  Of course, I have no idea how many of my teammates actually know where that quote comes from, but I'd guess it's maybe 1 or 2, at best.

How long has it been like this?

Did it "all started with the strawberries"?

Yep. Although with the internet and youtube I think some of the younger generation will figure it out with a little Googling.

Actually records are the hipster thing again. My son is 21 and has a Polaroid camera that all his friends love.

I gave my daughter my old Pentax K1000, and everyone she knew freaked out.

Movie quotes seem to be somewhat ageless.  The other day there was a player named after a small movie character and I responded with a movie quote from that movie !  The player responded in kind with a movie quote and several other players had 'no idea what we were talking about...'  We told the the name of the movie and they weren't even sure they knew the name of the Stars involved !!!  WoW............getting old I guess.

May the Schwartz be with you !  Now, does anyone out there know what the Schwartz really means???

(My son is 14 and we've been showing him some classics. Latest was Blues Brothers followed by Holy Grail. Dude LOVED The African Queen,  too, but...I mean...Bogart and Hepburn. How could one not?)

I was stationed in Germany when that movie came out and the Germans were howling.  Ah, Mel is such a character and his use of idioms and words is world class.  Blazing Saddles....  Young Frank-en-steen.........  "Class dismissed"

Lucky you!  I gave my son laptop with WoWs on it, and he would not play it until I got him a couple of nice premium ships.
