Leberecht Maass — German Tier VII destroyer.

The first destroyer of the next generation (Zerstörer 1934 type), which paved the way for the development of ships of this type in the German navy until the end of World War II. Thanks to large dimensions and robust design, she had excellent survivability.

Used to be a fairly competitive tier 7 DD, but it has been drastically powercrept by later additions such as Haida, Z39, Jervis, and Gadjah Mada, as well as Mahan, Sims, Akatsuki, Shiratsuyu, and Minsk being buffed around it. It's got the worst concealment of the tier, now, and very weak HE shells that struggle to win a DPM contest with most other tier 5 destroyers despite the relatively fast reload. It's huge, fat, and not particularly fast or nimble. About the only thing it has going for it is the torpedoes.

Isn't the point its AP shells are fast firing and can dish out a lot of punishment before you get to torpedo range?

Gotta say, I love this thing. BFT AP does do some nice work when it sticks, and that consumable juggle is pretty fun. It also helps that the torps always feel ready. I feel that the flak this line is receiving is undeserved. Though Z23 is probably going to be slow as my build doesn’t 100% work on her.
