Seeing your battle counts, you could/would have had learned something by that now.
But seeing you posting this thread, you might have not.

I suggest you watch those tutorials on YouTube posted by someone willing to help others.
Like the one on how you aim, etc...

Train yourself to look at the mini map and quit watching your shells so much, zoom out (free look and look around) in between shots often. Go to school, so you are not so stupid.

Is my hit rate that bad?

Not terrible but hits do not guarantee damage...where you hit is important (especially on a ship that has already taken a lot of damage). If you seem to do good in one on one battles at the start but just can't seem o get the killing blows in before you get sunk I'd suggest you watch the "How it Works" videos...try to ignore the math that just applies to the Fuso in the examples & pay attention more to the actual explanations about how the mechanics work.

I am very incessant which is aggravating, it just seems like I can't get a handle on where to go or when to fight

At least I know that it's my fault and not rng or mm

I have this same problem probably worse. I have watched video after video by youtuber after twitcher.  I read and look on the forums article after article.  Yea I stink at the game. So what.  Insulting and down grading your self is unhealthy.   There is no possible way that you can single handedly lose a game NO WAY.  Besides what would all the better players have to shoot at... each other then half of them would be bad.  I try not to get bogged down in the stats (I do any way though). Point is that because one is not good at something does not make them stupid.  Remember if there were no targets everyone would miss. Chin up man play and have fun.

Part of your problem is that you're playing the wrong ships.  You play mostly American ships, and they are not well suited for being out of position.  They are either slow (BB) or squishy (CA/CL, DD).  Your best ship, is both fast and tough...King George V.  RN BB are also simple to play.  You can just spam HE in them and you should do OK, even with a 19% hit rate.  They are fast enough that you can get to the fight and simple enough that you don't have to worry about the more intricate things a BB needs to worry about, like ammo management.  They've got a great heal, so you don't have to worry about fires as much.

My suggestion is to play a bunch of Co-op and Scenario battles with only one ship until you are completely familiar with it and can consistently win. After this you can go to Randoms and try your hand against the human players. If you only play occasionally it's hard to keep your skill level up. It's the same with anything. I've not shot a bow in years and probably would now be hard pressed to hit a pie plate at 20 yards, though at one time I could hit a bottlecap at the same distance.

I'm no "unicum," in fact my overall stats are generally orange to red. However, I've taken out the Gearing quite a bit lately and have become fairly good with it. My recent stats in that one ship are not too bad.

Destroyer
Next level: Average (+1.5%)
47.54%
Below Average
- - 57.14%
Great
+ 0.03% 55%
Very Good
+ 0.22%

You could also post replays for good players to analyze and tailored feedback to you.

Watch notser ichase etc on youtube. Watch where/how they p’ay, where they aim. When you die in battle follow the players until the match ends, see who comes out on top, where they go, what they shoot (or dont, not shooting is an essential part if the game if it can influence the strategic outcome). Keep an eye on the points, unfortunately this has more importance than kills in this game.

mostly install mods, check this forum the wargaming modstation is perfectly legal and includes some things that should be vanilla but are not. For example the score timer, and s feature which shows how the ships are angled in reference to you (the depiction on screen is not accurate). It also had x mar’s the spot long before that made it in game.

practice practice practice. Remember staying alive helps you learn, if you die too soon you wont learn much. Sorry long post.

I feel the same way. It seems no matter how hard I try I screw up, that's why I quit playing for a year or so but I like the game and decided to try again but I still suck. I watch a lot of videos on you tube trying to learn but I've decided I'm probably not going to get much better, I just keep plodding along in co-op hoping I don't screw up anybody's game too bad. I know this didn't help you much but I wanted to let you know you're not the only one who feels this way.

From my distant stat relevant perspective your survival rate is really, really low but your hit % isn't the worst I've seen- It needs improving... but it's not as low as I thought I'd see. You're hitting stuff... but you're not doing damage. You're over extending to hit stuff in ships with inaccurate guns at range... or US cruisers and you're getting killed from being pulled out of position.

You spent a lot of time in tier 4 but it looks like your skill didn't adapt to higher tiers. You kept doing the same thing that brought you above 50% in tier 4 and didn't change to meet the gameplay at higher tiers. Perhaps you didn't know better- perhaps you just didn't want to change.

You're free to do as you please but your stats tell the story of a guy who peaked in tier 4 and didn't develop skills needed to meet higher tiers. You got away with it in Tier 4 and as you moved up people feasted on your HP since you were positioning yourself poorly. This generally comes down to maintaining basic minimap awareness.

You're almost 6000 battles in- your survival rating is severely low and your hit % is lagging behind at 28%. My suggestion is you get back to your comfort zone in tier 4 and go back to the aiming academy. Watch notser and ichase in their aiming videos. Learn how to hit things at longer ranges. Learn to interpret ships angle, speed and matching your shell flight time to the tickmarks on your gun reticle.

This will help you hit things and do damage from a distance where you're safer... and in the meantime you'll stay in the game longer and have more of an impact which should drive up your win rate.

This is why I recommended that he switch to his KGV.  T7 has great MM at the present.  KGV is fast enough to get him to the action if he chooses wrong originally.  It's fast enough to get him /out/ of bad situations if he has to cut and run.  It's tough enough to survive a mistake or two.  It's HE spammy nature will help to make up for poor shot placement with DoT from the hits he does get.

He's got a sizeable sample size in his KGV, and wins above a 50% rate.  The RN BB line is perfectly suited for a player who struggles with the finer points of game play.  He's got to get away from the American stuff though...it requires too much from the player to work.

Yeah... I'll buy that- though RNBBs are the EZHE button... which may increase his overall damage but continue to limit his impact on the game.

Not being argumentative- OP needs to figure out if he really wants to change. Often people seek advice when they know the answer but what a different one.

I don't take it as argumentative at all.  The OP here said that he's watched videos and tried to improve, but gets tunnel vision.  He's admitted that he struggled with positioning.  He doesn't know where to go and often chooses to go to the wrong spots at the beginning.  His stats say that accuracy and survival is a problem.  I feel I am in a similar boat, and have peaked.  I'm a 57% mid tier player.  Without divving up to improve my team, it is what it is.  My stats at t9+ are horribad, but also a pretty small sample size.  I never play those ships so, it's hard to say if I can adapt to that level at T9+ or not.  If I did decide I was going to play T9 and 10 though, I would try to find a ship that matches up for how I play and try to build confidence.

The problem with T4 imo, is the ships are not interesting to a lot of people.  I think it's fair to say that WW2 era ships are more popular than WW1 era ships.  I think that WG does the population a disservice by not providing some of the weaker WW2 era ships that could be tiered in the lower tiers, which may interest folks enough to play those tiers.  A John C Butler class destroyer escort would easily fit in at T3.  The British Arethusa class cruiser could fit at T4, along with Dutch ships like the deRuyter and Tromp.  It's hard to tell people "just play low tiers" when the more modern ships that are more interesting are all found at higher tiers.  I really wish they would throw low tier players more bones like the Yubari and Katori, which have the more modern look of ww2 ships, without the perfomance to back those looks up.

OP for every ubermensch video of CC's and top players ruining lives there are scads of games where they park on an island, give broadside at the worst possible moment, or fire a perfect leading shot to a ship that stops or is actually reversing [damn those space camo smoke stacks!]. RN and KM bb's are ideal lines to start in... and when you finally tire of them usn dds and km cas are a blast. Don't give up, learn when and where you can, and when salty curmudgeons rage at you tell them how handsome you think they are... for some reason it really flubs up their whole train of thought. :cap_fainting:

Send some replays to community contributor @Lord_Zath . He does a replay "theater" every weekend where players send replays to him and he comments on it during the stream. His comments have helped me improve and they will certainly help you improve your play style. And by the way, your stats are not that awful. I have seen much worse. For example, your win rate is average as most people are between 45% and 55%. Of course, your kill/death ratio is a little low, but that can be improved.

Thank y'all for the support and advice. I just got so frustrated yesterday because I was staying in the back trying not to rush in and play differently and got no hits and still sank.

I don't play as much as I used to , I have turned into a weekend only player. I love the game I just need to quit worrying about stats and have fun again if I can.

Like others said the red team needs something to shoot at :)

It also didn't help that it was only 2 wins in 8 games, win rate feels so out of my control

I know that feeling.  At one point several months back I thought I was improving a bit.  Then hit an atrocious losing streak.  My stats had never been that great, but it really nosed dived.  I was really discouraged and just dropped down to play PvE only for a while.  Between that and Ops I tried to just play and enjoy the game a bit.  And don't think you're "stupid" because of your effectiveness in a video game.  This isn't life, it's just entertainment.  When it ceases to be enjoyable, either stop or do something different.  When I'm having a really bad day at it, I just go back to play some T3 Co-op games.  Heck, I peeked at your stats and see you had a 7 kill game in the St Lois.  Plus a Kraken in the New York.  You obviously have game at times.  So when things don't go right, drop back down and play those.

@weesel_sniper there is no way having been a beta tester and with the number of battles shown that you could be so bad to need to apologize. Nor that you would be unaware of all the learning aids available. 3+ years since you registered for WG titles. You state you are old if so I am also 66 and disabled bedridden in a nursing home till the end of my days. You would have to be much older, more disabled and/or mentally addled than I to be as bad as you state!

Fellow Captains I suspect we have here a youthful novice here who has taken over the account of someone else and is present a false front.
