Matchmaking in Random and why it should be less random

One of the biggest issues with this game is the matchmaking.

Wargaming has tried to curb the issue with creating this idea of "balance" between the teams by putting similar ships on both sides.  But problem is still there:  a statistical gap between players puts them at a disadvantage.

So how would I fix it?  Simple.  Static brackets.

Tiers:

  1. 1
  2. 2-3
  3. 4-5
  4. 6-8
  5. 9-10

First 2 brackets should be obvious.  And that's basically what the game is now.

4-5 is usually how it is but often, tier 5s are fighting tier 7s.  The DPM difference between an Omaha and Atlanta are ridiculous.  4 is the start of carriers and they shouldn't be fighting tier 3s that don't even have AA.

6-8 would be perfect if WG made 1 adjustment, they lowered tier 8 battleship armor from 32mm.  When you play tier 8 right now, you feel like a punching bag for tier 10s and a god versus tier 6s.  Not only do 9s and 10s have more firepower and hit points, but they also get a heal (except destroyers).

Bracketing is how most games like this do it.  Cloud Pirates is a perfect example.

Let's go Wargaming.  Apply some logic.

Wargaming is extremely conservative when it comes to matchmaking, they know it's not a perfect system, but they don't want to spend resources on finding different methods. they always said, time and time again, that "its too soon or "the MM is fine" and "we are looking in to it",but after some time,no solid evidence is show that they are working on it,they have lots of data about battles and ships.

BUT

the CV rework might help this situation, IF the CV reworks comes and it's a good rework, they might focus on the matchmaker.

now you are asking yourself,why?

because they finally reworked the most controversial class in game, pray that they don't go the same path as wot, destroying artillery class and making them in to stun vehicles.

Why, in this system, would you ever want to play tiers 4, 6, or 9?  This takes an existing issue - some tiers (5 and 8) get uptiered a lot - switches around the tiers affected, and makes the uptiering constant.

Bracketing will kill off any incentive to play tier 2,4,6,7,9 ships outside of tech tree grind since they will never be top tier

Put in an option to allow longer queue wait times in exchange for same-tier MM - basically if you are willing to wait 2 minutes, your tier 8 gets a game with all tier 8s. Tier 10 will be exempt from this for obvious reasons, but the other tiers should see better MM.

I see enough games with 20 tier 10s and 4 tier 8s/9s that it makes no sense not to fill the spots with 10s by waiting 15 seconds.

Wargaming essentially broke MM in world of tanks because they wanted to “fix” it.  The fix made most of my favorite tanks not fun to play any longer.   I really, really, really don’t want them to change anything with MM in this game.  People in tanks had no idea how good they had it, when they complained to change it.  It’s the same thing in this game.

MM is fine and working as intended! This is not just another one of those games that does things the way you want them done!

I think this has been discussed here to dead. There isn't a perfect MM. While it isn't too much fun to being uptiered you still have a chance to influence the match. Also: the Opfor get most of the time the same setup like your team. Only div's disturbe this sometimes. Also: the population and events influence the MM a lot. Lately many start grinding the legendary modules so T8 see much more often T10 then before. The only way to fix this would be the T11 and T12 MM from WoT. And while WG think T4 should be protected (that wasn't always the case aka the good old times), T5 isn't the same fun it was once. And don't let me talk about the real old times were you could end up 3 tiers higher and with no CV while the enemy had two.

That creates other problems. The ships with a very few exceptions are well balanced around the current tier spread. With single tier MM without a complete re-balancing pass there are going to be ships that do exceptionally well and at the same time some ships that will do exceptionally poor.

Ummm... you play 2 to get to 3.  And statistically, 2 and 3 are nearly identical.

Besides, the goal of the game is to get to tier 10.

Consider 5 vs 7.  Where 7 has on average 50% more HP and double the armor.

At the end of the day, who queues up to be top tier?  What you want is a fair fight.  And being bottom tier puts an arm behind your back to where you feel like you must be top tier.

Isn't that one of the reasons to get to T10? Other than clan battles or ranked, (when it's T10) I can't think of another one.....
