I am an admitted wallet whale in this game. I really enjoy it so I am not shy about spending real money on it to enhance my fun. I usually buy a lot of stuff and especially crates for the camo's, flags, missions, and other goodies you get. However, even I balked at the cost of the Go Navy containers and didn't buy a single one. Just way too expensive for what you got. So I was skeptical when I heard some new WOWS 3rd Anniversary containers were coming. If WG overpriced them as they did with the Go Navy ones I planned to pass once again.

I was very pleased to see a more reasonable price on them and that the items were actually very good. So my wallet cracked open and I bought 2 of the 30 pak bundles. Very happy with the results...

Flags:

Containers contained a chance at 5 of the Dragon Series flags or 5 or 10 of the new flags (3 in series). So 300 flags minimum possible. I ended up with...

  • Wyvern - 10 (+50% Credits)
  • Hydra - 15 (+50% XP/+150% Capt XP/+250% Free XP)
  • Dragon - 20 (+333% Capt XP)
  • Red Dragon - 30 (+100% XP/+100% Capt XP)
  • Ouroboros - 35 (+777% Free XP)
  • Basilisk - 75 (+30% Credits/+75% XP)
  • Scylla - 75 (+25% Credits/+50% XP/+150% Capt XP)
  • Leviathan - 145 (+20% Credits/+50% XP/+100% Capt XP/+200% Free XP)

Total flags = 405

Tokens:

Each container comes with 45 Tokens that can be spent in the Arsenal's Anniversary section. 60 crates X 45 Tokens = 2700. With those tokens I got...

  • Edinburgh Artic Perma Camo - 200 Tokens (standard perma camo benefits)
  • 500 WOWS 3rd Anniversary Camo's - 2500 Tokens (50 tokens for a 10 pak) Camo's provide standard -3%/+4% and then +100% XP and +100% Free XP

Collection:

Each container also included 1 collection piece towards the 3rd Anniversary Collection. 16 pieces are needed to finish it. I finished the collection without needing to use duplicates so got credits for 44 pieces. Each duplicate piece gets you 15,000 credits. I ended up with...

  • Complete Part 1 = 10 WOWS 3rd Anniversary Camo
  • Complete Part 2 = 10 Basilisk Flags
  • Complete Part 3 = 10 Scylla Flags
  • Complete Part 4 = 10 Leviathan Flags
  • Complete Collection = WOWS 3rd Anniversary Flag + 1 Super Container ( I got 15,000 coal in mine)
  • Duplicate Compensation = 660,000 Credits (44 X 15,000)

So I would say these containers are a very good value. Way better than the Go Navy ones. Good job WG! :Smile_honoring:

EDIT - Almost forgot. Here is the Edinburgh Arctic Camo...

Thanks for the breakdown Thunder and gratz! I just worry you will end up playing WoWS in a van, down by the river (but close to a McDonalds where you can use their WiFi)..

I don't really do anything much for fun so a few bucks here and there on the game isn't going to send me to skid row (I don't think :Smile_amazed:)

Just a heads up, I would hold off using your tokens to buy any of the patches in this group of items. Wargaming has already given away two and they said they would be having more bonus codes available (although they didn't say patches would be the prize every time) in the coming weeks. If you have to have one of the patches, hang on to enough tokens until the event is nearly over then buy it if they haven't given it away.

Hmmm so with tokens all spent on special flags, you get around 200+(1350/30*5) = 425 special flags, for $70?

That puts them at ~17 cents a flag.

Which also means it's considerably more expensive than existing options per flag, though you do get the additional flag choices (Leviathon stacks very nicely with other fxp flag + camos).

You have to remember you get other stuff besides the tokens in the crates including the flags you are talking of buying. So add all the ones you got from the crates to the ones you buy with tokens and then see what the per flag cost was.

I just want captains - the fishy OG space captain for my kids (they were sad when he left at the end of space battles) and a Dasha or two to get me some easy ten-pointers (there are no pan-Asian space captains, alas).

Unfortunately I'm going to be away for half of this event, so the ability to cough up for a few crates and grab some tokens if I can't win enough is going to be great. The flags and any collection pieces I get will be a happy bonus.

I did. You bought 2 packs according to your OP and got 405 flags. So, about 200 flags/$72 pack.

Then you get another 45x30 tokens = 1350. That gives you 1350/30 * 5 = 225 more.

So, $72 gives you around 425 flags... $72/425 = 16.94 cents/flag. This is much worse than other crate--> flag options.

I'm assuming (perhaps wrongly) that WG will make it possible to complete this collection via ingame tasks, so those benefits are negligible (as are any benefits of the collection dups).

I think there are in-game tasks but I won't know about those until I can log in this evening.

Whether it's worth it for you all depends on what you want out of the content. As I've said, I'm treating this as a fallback position if I can't play enough to win stuff for free, then the things I'm not buying the crates for are a bonus. If I had four weeks free to flog these crates as hard as I could, I wouldn't even be thinking about crate purchases.

Are Dasha commanders, or any of the others, just regular 10-point or do they have any special bonuses?

405 flags from the crates then another 30 for completing the collection stages. I also used my tokens on camo's as said as I needed some.

Yes, some other crates have more flags but they cost more too. This was a good deal overall. If it doesn't appeal to you that is fine but I found it worth it which is all that matters to me. They definitely are better value IMO than the Go Navy ones which was sort of the point.

In his reply about the cost per flag I think he is referred to the fact you didn’t consider the other items received for the $72:

2 of the 30 packs, WOW! I thought myself a whale, I only bought 1 of the 30 packs so I guess I am just a porpoise LOL

Agreed, it seems like a very good value for how much is spent! I will most likely buy more of them.

Protip for Canadians - Tim Horton's wifi also seems pretty reliable in this context.

I just hope you realize that the whole crate thing is nothing more than gambling. It is a system created to get more of your money for less goods. While giving you the illusion of hope that you will hit the jackpot and hit it big. I was a wallet whale like you, on my old account I had a fleet of 47 premium ships, I bought thousand upon thousands of doubloons. However as gamers we are all doing a disservice to ourselves by buying these gambling boxes. People need to refuse to buy anything until these greedy companies allow us to buy exactly what we want in exchange for money instead of gambling and hoping we get a lucky roll of the dice.

What woke me up was EA and their loot box shenanigans. As well as EA sports with their Madden Ultimate Team and similar modes with FIFA. EA made 800 MILLION dollars off people buying MUT card packs trying to improve their MUT team. They also had an equation that the more money you spent on the game, the lower the odds your chance of getting that big ticket item was. I guarantee WOWS has something similar......as whales we can rationalize spending that extra bit of money trying to get that last bit of kit. I am happy you are enjoying the game, I just hope you wake up like I did and stop letting Wargaming take advantage of your Whale status and take the stance that if Wargaming wants my money than let me buy what I want, when I want it, for a reasonable price.

I only spend money on ships and premium time. Nothing else really makes a significant difference in actual gameplay to make it worth money.

I have purchased ships, credits, doubloons and signal flags, along with premium time, but really don't consider myself a "whale" as such.   I live in Las Vegas so am very familiar with Casino's and Whales, though I don't gamble myself.      Other than the computer, internet, washing & waxing our car, reading, doing honey do's and playing WoW's I do little else.   Then it hit me!   I asked my wife to agree to my purchasing a couple of French ships, Doubloons, Credits, and Premium Account showing her the cost per day compared to a round of Golf several days a week ( I don't play that game either).   I always break down every deal into cost per dollar spent, especially doubloons received per dollar spent.   Incidentally, the return per dollar spent varies widely and often surprisingly.   I do this with every deal in the Premium Shop.   I also work out all my next tier ships, total cost researched, purchased, consumables, captains, upgrades, and Modules on paper.    I then show that to my wife and it has worked every time when she sees it in print.    So call me a whale if you want but it's fun to me and isn't that what life is about?  Or perhaps just consider me a stay at home golfer saving a ton of money if I played that game instead!

For guys with more money than time, the economic signals are a huge bonus.

I bought 5 crates, was enough to guarantee I got my camo for my Edinburgh. Won't buy anymore. Nothing else in the shop I am really interested in.  And the only reason I did that, was because I had some extra cash from selling some old Warhammer 40k stuff on eBay, that the wife didn't know about lol.  :Smile_hiding:

First you pay your bills, set aside for food, clothes and whatever you need to in your life and then whatever is left spend it on whatever you like, or save it if that's your cup of tea. Up to everyone to decide what they want to do with their money, as far as we know we're just around for this event called life once so better enjoy it as much as we can using personal preference.

There are two challenges giving containers for completion - Lucky 3 shows as 1 part, Weekend Madness shows as 2 parts.
