Just curious...what is the most IDEAL gunboat build for the new IJN gunboats? I've got an Aki but cannot decide!

AR, SE, IFHE

For max damage use IFHE, BFT, DE.

BFT is guaranteed 10% more damage, but DE gives you 33% (4% to 6%) more fires & is a wild card that could pay off +30k more damage.

Faster reload in Upgrade #6 gives you 12% more damage, Range upgrade opens up more targets.

My Kita Cmdr Yamamoto* has PT, PM*, AR, LS, SE, BFT, DE, IFHE.

This build is definitely for when you division up with a stealthier ship that can spot for you.

This right here is the build I am thinking of experimenting with, with my new Akizuki captain.

That, and swapping SE for DE... I need lots of commanders

I take SE on my gunboats, but it doesn't "feel" like it adds enough to be worth it. With the Akizuki cousins having so much base HP, you might consider swapping it for BFT and yet more dakka + Demo Expert for more fire chance.

I respecced to this from using AFT and PT instead of DE and AR which is what I had on my Akizuki. I do miss the range sometimes but it's 2.4 second base reload with all the gun mods. This is what I"m using on Harugumo.

builds above are pretty good, tho i feel like i would take vigilance when i hit 17 points to help deal with the torps.  and if you have CE, you could even swap out the concealment upgrade for TA for the extra torp warning should you want it.  from what i seen, torps tend to be the biggest weakness to these ships. 

 

of course if you play in divisions, you can go with a greater variety of builds knowing your div mates will make up for your weaknesses.
