Black Swan changes in 7.8

I can understand the changes to the Black Swan in 7.8. In experienced hands (and especially with a high point commander), she could really dominate at Tier 1.

However, why weren't her main guns given the AA rating they are missing if this ship was being looked at by WG for this patch? Other Tier 1 ships have their proper main gun AA ratings, why does the Black Swan not have her's?

(and yes, T1 ships DO fight aircraft from time to time - and the Black Swan was specifically intended as an anti-submarine/anti-aircraft escort vessel, with her main guns being her primary anti-aircraft weapons)

Why you want to shut down those airships at T1?

I believe the only aircraft she could even see to shoot down is the spotter plane on the Tier 3 quasi-premium Japanese cruiser Katori, and then only if she's div'd with a Tier 2 boat that faces both Tiers 2 & 3 opponents.

For British Tier I cruiser Black Swan, the guns’ reload time has been increased from 3 to 4 seconds. AP shells have been replaced by HE shells:

Maybe I'll have to knock the dust off my Orlan.

I guess the tier 1 "elite" will have to find something else to drive brand new players out of the game with.

Brand new players have already moved to Tier 2 before they're allowed to meet people like @theLaalaa in battle. Would-be sealclubbers who come down to T1 expecting to find fresh meat often get a nasty surprise. Even Flamu got his fingers burned on one occasion.

I'm convinced that these kinds of people play tier 1 because they lack the ability to handle complexities of the game such as torpedoes and different ship types. And their higher tier performances lends it to that theory. The thing I actually am bothered by the most is the smug "We are the elite" attitude that looks down on others just because they play in tiers past T1.

The tier 1 elite have been there since I started playing. I got my butt kicked by them when I first started. I see you weren't driven out of the game. You played 13 t1 games and moved on. Good for you. There is a t1 community of dedicated t1 players. I was part of it for a long time. That community plays against each other. I enjoyed going into a random match knowing that I had played with or against many of the players. Normally they try to help the new guys, because they need them to win the match. You might want to try it again. Not near the salt of high tier play and the ships are pretty balanced.

I'd rather play a game mode that doesn't exclude my preferred ship type. Let me know when you graduate to tier 2 and I'll repurchase Umikaze.

I haven't played tier 1 in a long time. The mission requirements of tier 5 and higher for all the freebies have kept me occupied.

I recently played a few T1 battles just for kicks.  I did't encounter any of the "T1 elite".  It was mostly people with a relatively few number of battles, or people with a very poor overall win rate and an average T1 win rate.  Queue times are pretty long.  I find it hard to believe people stick in that tier for long but to each their own.  It's nice that they're bothering to work on balance.

Who is being smug now? I haven't played t1 for some time and have 82 ships in port of all tiers, nations and types, except CVs. I just wanted to know, since you don't play t1, how do you know that players are being driven out of the game by t1 players. By the way my favorite ships to play lately are DDs.

I did PT 7.8 and I saw no significant difference in any tier 1 ship. OP is just trifling over a number that in tier 1 means absolutely nothing.

I was going to point out that @KiyoSenkan's Tier 1 career (cited by @gillhunter) makes him manifestly UNQUALIFIED to speak about Tier 1 demographics, as I've said about almost ALL people that repeat the myth that Tier 1 random is populated by vast numbers of players that barely know what the left mouse button is for. Most of their imagined 'noobs' have enough XP racked up from playing protected random (up to acct level 10) to research and buy Tier 2 boats by the time they're in unprotected random. Want to know where the oft-repeated seal clubbing occurs? Tiers 3 and 4, where they're stuck for dozens of games with stock boats for a while while being pummeled by Wakatakes, St. Louis's, G-101s.

I have boats up to Tier 9 - mainly cruisers due to the brisk pace of cruiser play. I don't really like upper tier play, and my performance shows that I don't really enjoy it. You tend to excel in things you enjoy, you know. So your theory is bunk

As for smugness... wow.... Your perceptions are the opposite of reality. Being a Tier 1 main calls down the wrath of some, the derision of others, and, really, the elitism of those that think that the only game play that... what's the phrase, ...oh yes, "means anything really" is Tier 10 play.

  • Tier 1 is competitive - no one has hardware that simply dominates/overwhelms anyone else's hardware.
  • Tier 1 is simple warships - a boat, some guns, and your wits.
  • Tier 1 is also restorative - there's a community there that, after a few games and banters, you get to enjoy playing with and against.

If you like the upper tiers, great! But when you begin to wonder when the grind replaced the grins, Tier 1 reminds you of how much you enjoy playing this game.

And here I am once again being shamed for playing something other than tier 1.

Shame on me for liking boats with torpedo launchers, I guess.

If you are being shamed it isn't for playing something other than t1 or liking torpedoes, it's for your difficulty with reading comprehension.

By the way the Konigsberg is one of my favorite ships also.

Since @gillhunter is naming boats.... Besides my Black Swan, I enjoy my Orlan, though I only play it when I can div with a Tier 2 boat so it can play with the bigger boys of 2 and 3. Omaha is my smiling party boat, as is most of the mid-tier French cruisers. I've been enjoying the Nurnberg, too.... put on some driving music and just dance between the splashes.....

I even like the Buffalo.

But when I'm tired of all that, I go home... to Tier 1. ;)

Can't wait for tonight when I can see for myself whether the fuss is about something real or much ado about nothing.

My goodbye game in the AP Swan (an ominous 666 base XP) was a win in no small part due to @theLaalaa's tactical advice. T1 co-op is free-wheeling spam shooting in open water because the bots don't (didn't?) shoot very straight or co-ordinate their fire well; T1 Randoms is like a cat stalking a mouse, knowing the mouse is armed. The island camping is, if anything, even worse than T10 because there are no heals and all the damage sticks, and the long-term T1 players don't miss much. I can only imagine what that's going to be like when a Black Swan spits HE from all six barrels with AFT, BFT, Demolition Expert, and all the fire flags running.
