We currently have two ops, and a third on the way, that allow only Allied ships to participate. I think it's about time for an operation that permits only Axis (German, IJN and Italian) ships from playing.

How about a Hunt the Bismarck style op? Axis cruisers need to escort Bismarck to a certain point while getting constantly attacked by British vessels?

Or a Leyte Gulf style op? Axis ships of all types must escort IJN battleships to Samar to bombard the US landings in the Philippines?

Please give the Axis navies some love!

Give us an IJN DD/CA operation inspired by the first night battle of Guadalcanal.

Tier 7, so Shiratsuyu can participate, considering a Shiratsuyu class ship was made famous by that battle.

Several Akatsukis were at guadalcanal too, come to think of it.

Escorting two tier 5 NPC battleships might be a pain though.

Escorting Scharnhorst and Gneisenau through the channel, with former getting hit by a mine twice, latter only once, both being need of defense while the Damage Control Teams try to get them operational again.

Protecting the fleet against British air and motorboat attacks.

Yep, that sounds solid.

I think that the issue might be that when you're talking about Allied and Axis sides, you're talking about the "good guys" and the "bad guys".  And some might object to operations strictly for axis forces where the goal is to defeat the Allies.

Regardless...

There are some ideas that could have, let's say, historical inspiration.

1. (As you suggest) A Hunt the Bismarck inspired operation.  It might be similar to operation Hermes, except that the players are escorting the German BB Bismarck to port.  And the player force might be composed of tier 7 Axis cruisers.  The operation map might be a Denmark Strait inspired map, with some ice floes and fog banks.

2. A channel dash operation where the player is trying to escort the Scharnhorst and Gneisenau across the map, using, let's say, tier 6 Axis cruisers and perhaps DDs.

3. An operation based on IJN missions down "The Slot" to resupply Guadalcanal at night.  Or perhaps combine it with the battles in Iron Bottom Sound.

4. I imagine that it might be possible to come up with something inspired by RN vs Italian or German forces in the Mediterranean.

5.  I could imagine an operation from either side (a convoy raiding operation or a convoy defense operation) based on the convoys to and from Murmansk.  It could be a German convoy raiding mission or it could be an Allied convoy defense mission.  The operation could occur north of Norway, on an Arctic flavored map with storms and fog banks.

6.  It might be interesting to see the Narai operation taken back into the "shop" and tweaked to be an Axis mission, since after all, the bot team is, primarily USN ships, with a few RN ships thrown in.  The basics of Narai would be fine.  Maybe just limit the players to using Axis ships.

The one thing with Narai is that I have no idea what the inspiration for this mission is.  I have to admit that I like operations that have a more historical feel to them.  They don't have to be ripped from the pages of history, as it were.  But maybe tell us what the inspiration for the operation was.

7. Another operation that could be tweaked to be more Axis vs Allies would be Final Frontier.  IIRC, all of the enemy bots are USN ships, so why not make this one an Axis operation?   Heck, arguably, the devs could go back and tweak all of the operations to be Axis vs Allies.

Killer Whale would be an Allied raid (vs German defenders).  Newport Station would be an Allied base defense (vs IJN attackers).  Aegis would be an Allied attack on IJN defenders of a captured convoy.  And so on.

Anyways, just a few thoughts and suggestions.

I'll like to see T8 operations where Axis ships, including Battleships, are allowed, I have the Tirpitz and Bismarck, both famous ships and I can't use them in operations, which is a pity.  The French has Hermes and Allies have Cherry Blossom (cruisers only) for T8 ships to play in, I hope to have more T8 operations.

I just had an idea for an "alt history" Operation based on Operation Ten-Go where the players take the position as Axis ships escorting Yamato against waves of aircraft. Bonus objectives would include taking out the carrier group.

What about Savo Island? We still need a British(standing in for Australian) CA, but once one of those comes into the game, we're all set. Let's face it, no one would want to play as the Allies in a Savo Island-inspired Operation anyway, so it would be a perfect fit. It would need a NPC Tenryu, though, as a Player Tier III Tenryu facing up against Tier VI-VII Allied CAs? Blech.

Yes. Possible Axis ops...

  • Channel Dash
  • Invasion of Norway
  • Night Bombardment of Guadalcanal
  • Battle off Samar (must kill transports to win)
  • Attack on Murmansk convoy
  • Cape Matapan/Med
  • Raid on Ceylon
  • Midway with landing troops on Midway to win

It'd be another Night Battle, though. IJN Cruisers could use some love in OPs, anyway. Usually they are the opponents, and just bait.

I would love to see the Channel Dash as an operation. Mainly due to the image of a couple Royal Navy destroyers and the RAF attempting to give chase to a German Battleship.

I don't see why not; there are certainly many historical actions that lend themselves well to Axis vs Allied small-scale clashes and odd operations.

In the Atlantic/North Sea:

  • Channel Dash - German Destroyers - Escort Scharnhorst & Gneisenau through the channel escorting against British aircraft, Vosper MTB's, and destroyers, plus avoiding mines
  • Bismarck Cycle - German Cruisers & Destroyers - Escort the German battleship, providing cover from air attacks, shadowing British cruisers, night destroyer attacks, and get the ship to a French Port if possible
  • Barents Sea - German Cruisers & Destroyers - Attempt to intercept an Allied Convoy escorted by cruisers and destroyers.
  • Another convoy scenario could see you attempting to sink the crippled Edinburgh as destroyers

In the Mediterranean:

  • Battle of Pantellaria - Italian Cruisers & Destroyers - Attempt to destroyer a British convoy
  • 'Route of Death' - Italian Destroyers - Attempt to successfully escort a convoy 'to Africa', defending against British aircraft, destroyers, and even cruisers in some cases
  • Wake of Matapan - Italian Cruisers & Destroyers - Escort the damaged battleship Vittorio Veneto back to friendly air cover, defending against British air attack, and harassing cruisers & destroyers
  • Forcing the Straits - Italian Cruisers - Retrace the steps of the Scipione Africano, and attempt to force the Straits of Messina, getting past Allied surface units (Vosper MTB's) and perhaps aircraft in a night battle.
  • Red Sea Raids - Italian Destroyers - Attempt to hit a British convoy in the Red Sea, and raid Port Sudan or the Suez successfully.

In the Pacific

  • Complete victory at Savo - Japanese Cruisers & Destroyers - Ambush and destroy allied cruisers and destroyers and hit the American forces that have landed on Guadalcanal
  • Tokyo Express - Japanese Destroyers - Try to successfully run supplies to Guadalcanal
  • Ten-Go - Japanese Cruisers & Destroyers - Make the Yamato last as long as possible against waves of American aircraft.

Etc, etc, etc.

Or Marianas Turkey Shoot, this time help the bot fighters defeat a certain number of Allied planes and then sink the Big E and her escorts. I can see this putting 3 Shokakus vs. an Enterprise and two Essex.  Only thing is the # of carriers has to be limited, know from training room that 12v12 bot Haku/Midway launched enough planes to lag even my gaming rig.

Truk Island is another. Defend the IJN installation, merchant ships, then take fight to the Enterprise and her escorts.

Prinz Eugen was also present during the Dash.

Yep, but Eugen was not really having these issues I described. Having the escorted unit slow down after a mine hit will spice things up.

Already got one.  Ultimate Frontier is the defense of an evacuating Japanese (Axis) research program.  Attackers are all USN.  (Player side is not restricted to Axis ships.)

[Glad to hear the Ultimate FU will be loosened up a bit.]
