I was never a fan of the style of music she performed. Still recognize her as one of the greats, though.

Sad day.

Her talent = amazing but, she has not done anything of note since the 1980's

her legacy = one of the great musical talents in the last century

as a citizen = crap, she was in trouble with the IRS for the last 20 years

Myself I just love Music, I listen to everything from Otep to Scottish Bagpipes.

She will be missed.

OK, at least you're balanced here,

How many of our "heroes" and public figures fail to live up to what we believe or expect of them … all of them?

It's part of growing up and hero worship is not a good thing - the OP opened the door and you ran right through it with a grenade lol

I think what he was trying to relate was, your post was a little insensitive. It basically comes down to yes a famous singer has moved on, what ever faults, trails or tribulations occurring while alive, is now moot. I would recommend   not to post those things while the body is still warm. Consideration on the dead and the mourning would be golden on your part.

As for me, I dont like her genre of music. But her blues brothers performance was her stand out, a true Female entertainer. One that stands the test of time. Blues Brothers is by far a great film using actual music talents, now its considered as a history piece. Since must of the famous performers of the movie are no longer with us. Thanks to them in inspiring/entertain/give joy,  a master piece for which generations can enjoy that wonderful era in time. For me that is what Aretha Franklin and the power of music stands for. There are many things I can say about Miss "respect", but as long as you, me, and the rest of society who were touch by her talent are alive, her music will live on.

Her early works were awesome! Ruth Brown Diana Washington could also really belt it out. So much better than the vocal gymnastics garbage that passes for music these days.. RIP Aretha!
