This may be public knowledge already, but today's posted Developer's Diaries video confirms Royal Navy DDs for update 0.7.9 (0:57).

Lesser news is the acknowledgement of the CV rework before the end of the year (8:15).

I really hope they change the design philosophy regarding RN DD's.  Pumping out DD hunter clones is getting old.

Beat me to it!!!

Good thing; I'll be away for much of the first half of 0.7.8, and wouldn't want to miss anything. Maybe this will give them an extra patch to think about reintroducing speed boost and narrow pattern salvo firing (instead of wide), and doing some last tweaks.

Your right on the money or if they want to make the line unique how super fast exceleration  to top speed

I just saw the same video in the living room while I was in and out of the kitchen making coffee on TV so I missed some of what you said but to me the most important thing I did hear was that you would be able play cross server without having to make new accounts.  I hoping they're not all the same camping potato meta. It's so [edited]boring and frustrating in most games at the moment.

The cruisers have that anyway, but maybe it could be buffed a bit for the DD's.

Things I think need tweaking here:

Speed boost - would be nice to reintroduce.

Torpedoes - need a bit more range. As things stand, the premium Gallant and Cossack are going to be significantly  better than the tech tree ships at those tiers, and the cruisers actually have equal to better torpedoes than the destroyers (which are far more reliant on them) above Tier 4 or so. 

Firing modes - single and wide needs to go back to single and narrow. 

Guns - 114mm (4.5") on Battle and Daring classes needs 1/4 pen rule as per the Akizuki, or needs to be treated as 120's for armour penetration calculations.

WG Employee #1: DD players are complaining that they have the lowest damage, XP and survival, and their life is getting even tougher with the radar meta.


WG Employee #2: I know! Let's make the next DD line a "DD hunter" so now DD players can join the fun and can also make other DD player's lives miserable.

WG Employee #1: Hmmm this might be too OP.  Let's balance them by making them too slow to keep up with other DDs, make their hydro useless and keep their torpedo range down, cos having 4 or 5 torpedoes on a 2 minute reload seems a bit too powerful.  


WG Employee #2: Wow, let's roll it out for 7.9. Everyone is going to be super excited about this line! RN DD - woooo!

It’s only for CB. So yeah, it’s more than likely going to be that meta lol.

Umm, why the salt? I, for one am excited for the RN DD’s. How’s about instead of knocking the line, play a different line. Having this every new line must be better than the last is a toxic mentality. These ships will do well, and offer a different playstyle.

A different playstyle? 

What is that? All i see with RN DD's is the same exact gameplay I see from USN / KM Destroyers.

 

Knife fighting Destroyers with gun focus and that has some kind of utility.  That not flavor that is just copy pasta. 

 

Low caliber daka daka - IJN gun boats. 

support Destroyer - USN DD's

Cap contesting specialty - KM DD's 

 

All 3 of these destroyers do exactly what RN DD's are specialized in, hardly "different"

The RN DD’s aren’t going to be your cap contesting boats. They are fleet support boats and gun fire multipliers. They also appear to shut out caps with daka daka from behind islands. They are too slow to cap contest directly unlike KM and US DD’s. If you folks don’t like it don’t grind it.

Please dismount your high horse and remove your white armour. I didn't ask for them to be better.  I am dubious they are going to be particularly fun for everyone involved. I don't see them offering a noticeably different playstyle than say the Haida or Kidd or Akizuki....

....but as a bonus RN DD get slow speed and a nerfed hydro as their gimmick.  As a bonus, floaty USN-style guns whose "different playstyle" from the US DDs is that they probably need IFHE to damage cruisers and BB.

Umm so what is this "fleet support" going to look like?  Spotting torps with my gigantic 2km range hydro? What fun.

A gun fire multiplier? From, what, under 8km? Have you even used USN DDs, beyond, say, a Clemson?

I don't think it is unreasonable to expect the highly anticipated, famous RN line to offer something other than a gimped USN experience.

I think you've got it right - they won't be ideal for fighting for caps from the start, but they might be better (especially at higher tiers) at locking them down once taken.

The timing is interesting - normally when the WG-CC's get them to show off in public, the ship is out with the next patch; this isn't the case here, which makes me think they've either pushed them back or they were doing the public showing a patch early in case the meta they're trying to introduce needed tweaking/repair.

Personally there is no need or want for that. 

 

Low range torpedoes make your torpedo power while protecting the fleet useless. 

Hydro is much better used in KM DD's in fleet support role or with German CA's 

USN DD's are much better fleet support craft, atleast they have the speed to keep up with most CA's and have DF AA which is more useful in a fleet support role .

 

I dont plan on grinding it, doesn't change the fact that its a failed tech tree line. 

There is no niche what so ever for these ships. 

They dont have a role in CW. 

They have a manufactured role of "fleet support ships" 

IJN Gunboats are better long range daka daka spammers with pen that actually works. 

They have worse velocity then USN making them horrible at projecting their gunnery power down range. 

Large gunnery ranges that allows ships to shoot them from farther away. 

 

What this ship line needed to make up for the crappy soft stats was a radar jamming consumable.   Gonna sacrifice everything ? Might as well make you immune to the number 1 counter in the game.

Would make sense historically. 

 

Personally I was hoping for a radar jamming consumable that would have an aura around you. Giving RN DD's the critical job of escorting destroyers into and out of caps. Which would shake things up considerably.

What a silly idea. A 1.5km hydro is obviously a much better "fleet support" tool.


Remember it's impossible to block radar waves, even with a few kilometres of solid island rock. Your idea sounds too unrealistic. (or, it would be too difficult for players to understand :Smile_Default:  )

As would giving them all RDF from about Tier VI upwards.

Speaking of historic sensor suites, one of these days I'd like to see them troll us all with a 1970's-vintage Leander-class frigate - infinite uses of radar and hydro (in the way that the Atlanta gets infinite defensive fire), going out to 12km for radar and 5km for hydro; RDF and Vigilance built in due to passive ESM/Sonar suites on these ships... of course her torpedoes are ASW, so about as good as those on the Smith or the Tachibana (if that) and her gun armament is just pathetic (one Daring turret; a couple of 40mm Bofors, and the Seacat missile system represented by a DFAA consumable of 4km radius or thereabouts). All spotting, no damage.

It would be interesting to see what such a ship would bring to the game, just for ships and giggles. Almost certainly in operations/scenarios, like the special abilities in the Halloween ships.
