Just looked up the OP's stats on the website:

https://worldofwarships.com/en/community/accounts/1031910913-ScubaDoobie/!/pvp/ships/?bestShip=st_2E_A0louis

Please notice the number of Tier 1 Random games this 'noob' has played (ZERO!). This is a common occurrence, and stands against the myth that Tier 1 is highly populated by noobs being slaughtered by a few highly experienced players.

Five Simple Steps To Learn Ships More Betterer (and Have Fun Doing It)

  1. Look on the bottom right corner of your screen.  There's a tiny little map down there which shows you everything that's going on in the battle, even the stuff that's outside of your viewing range (but inside at least one teammate's).  Learn from it, live by it, take the time to cuddle with it and compliment how good its hair smells after each battle.  Make sure your settings are changed to show ship names on the minimap and to show the last known position of enemy ships.  Paying proper attention to the minimap is the #1 thing which separates the good players from the ones who drive the good players crazy.
  2. While it's almost always easier to hit the green ships than it is the red ships (particularly with torpedoes), it's very very bad when you do this.  People get rightly indignant, and you get pink (or orange, if you do it again).  Always check to be sure you have clear firing angles before clicking your left mouse button!
  3. You are going to play against bots and within protected matchmaking for your first several sessions.  This will probably make you feel like you're much better at the game than you actually are.  Don't be discouraged when your results take a sudden nosedive--that probably just means you were released into the general population and are now seeing opponents with much more experience (and more experienced captains) than you.
  4. Do not be in a hurry to move up the tiers as quickly as possible.  Tier 5 in particular is a pretty huge leap in terms of the quality of opponents (and opposing ships) you're going to see.  Enjoy your time in the low tiers and use it to learn how to better use that minimap and how not to shoot the green ships.
  5. Try not to outgrow that "new player" mindset of going into battles without any expectations.  That's easier said than done, but the salt flows from the players who feel they've sunk enough hours into the game to expect things--a certain level of play from teammates, a certain amount of blessings from RNGesus, the enemy destroyer that's been on their minimap but outside their field of (tunnel) vision for several minutes not to torpedo them, the enemy battleship not to send them back to port with a not-so-gentle reminder that you don't show your broadside to an enemy battleship, etc.

Did you perchance click over to look at the number of Co-op battles he's played?

Good day to you Scuba, it was fun watching you yesterday. You can learn a lot from YouTube. I sent an invite to our clan if you want to take advantage of the discounts. Like I said yesterday though, we don't clan battle at all.

Watch YouTube to learn some of the basics, angling, ammo selection, basic idea of what each ship type & line are like. Also in your settings, change to full alternative interface.

Don't rush up any lines. Take your time and get to learn the game. There is no gain in WOWS from rushing to higher tiers. They all pretty much play the same anyways. Actually lower tiers are more "fun" in current meta.

I hope you enjoy the game!
