Well something kind of hilarious just happened to me and a Raptor Rescue group so i wanted to share.

So we got the route where Raptor must extract in the south-western corner of the map but just as we were about to reach the extraction Raptor started doing donuts just before reaching the extraction, which led us to loose a well fought 5 star operation due to time out.

Here's a picture of raptor doing the turn in-front of the extraction.

He started doing these turns with about 3 minutes left in the clock and it led to this (this was just after the countdown struck 0). Just wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this? I know I've heard stories of Raptor beaching and getting stuck in islands but never of him starting to do U turns in open water and completely ignore the extraction like this.

*I* do donuts waiting for Raptor after we've killed off the entire Imperial Japanese Navy.

Do you think that the AI might possibly be .. heuristic ??

I had one run today where the darn thing decided to go off on it's own little adventure that was fairly off course from the target zone. I ended up using my speed flagged Mutsu to catch it and slow it down so the rest of the team (including the other friendly bots) could catch up. By that point, though, the damage was done as Raptor had charged right into a group of enemies and both of us (me and that nutty CV) took torps from the DD that was part of that group while we were locked together in our little shoving match. I really have to wonder what caused the thing to go charging off at full or nearly full speed like that, it made no sense. I'll try and see if I can get some screen caps worth a darn out of the replay file.

Edit- Got some screen shots. Turns out it was torp bombers, not DDs that did the damage, though a DD got it with guns in the end.

Spoiler

1. The point at which Raptor decides escorts are for wimps.

2. Me catching up to the runaway CV because 28kts in Mutsu somehow put me as the closest ship.

3. The struggle to slow down the CV and let the team try to catch up.

Whatever is going on with the AI in this OP, it seems to fail to take into account the speed (or lack thereof) many of the ships for this OP can make.  I had to run up to full ahead with a speed flag to catch the darn thing, now way our New Mex would've been able to keep pace with it, let alone catch it.

And yet, poor Blasto soldiers on against the hordes that refuse to find him funny...

There's heroism there, too.

I can confirm the OP observation, I too was in that mission.   Raptor lost it's AI mind.
