I think she was one of four built at the time? My wife and I years  ago went to Fall River Mass to visit one of her sister ships the USS Massachusetts she took part in action when landing troops in Africa off the coast of Algiers fighting against  Vichy French ships. When we toured the interior front part of the Battleship you can see the Damage caused by the French war ships shells that hit the Massachusetts near the marine's detachment  sleeping quarters.    And when you go inside one of those 16 inches Turrets they have the hatch opened sealed with fiberglass you can see straight down about 5 or 6 stories .They had some nice stuff there to visit Even a Fast looking P.T Boat. a destroyer the USS Kennedy and a small museum .

I've been aboard the USS Lexington and the USS Alabama, and let me say you have not felt intimidation and sheer raw power until you have walked among these behemoths. They are just a reminder of what destruction humanity can rein upon each other.

Ok why is metric being used? I've never heard of the USS Alabama's main guns nor it's armour measured that way.

European company will measurement in metric.  America is one of the few nations left that uses Imperial.  (Mainly because it would cost a metric ton of money to convert to metric).\

Anyways, spent a couple nights on the Alabama with my Scout troop.  Very fun times.  The scale of these ships is hard to imagine until you actually get on board one of them.  If you can, go check one out!
