This. I'd LOVE the pictures, the insignias, and maybe the aircraft involved as pieces of such a Collection. Besides, a Channel Dash alternate camo for Scharnhorst would be amazing, with blue turret tops for the 283s and the 150s.

WG, please make this a thing!

Does anybody else want this for an event and collection some time in the next year?

Same. I've always loved the German Colored-Turret Camo schemes they would use for aerial identification by the Luftwaffe for major operations, and it's always annoyed me that we don't have one such camo for Scharnhorst.

Besides, blue-topped turrets really look cool.

One question though: do the colored turret tops that we have in-game currently for Bismarck actually aid in aerial identification if you don't have Alt interface on often in a carrier?

I'm assuming the prince & Gnies would be eligible for these camos too?

Saddest part of the dash was the senseless loss of the Swordfish commander (& other members of that crew) that got the torp hit on the Bismarck...they had just received the medals for the Bismarck operation the day before the dash.

Rather than a collection, might be nice to have the Channel Dash made into an Op for Axis ships.  Something we don't have at the moment.

Heck, why not both?  I'd love to be able to get a 10 point captain with extras for my Kreigsmarine ships.

The camo that you get in the collections needs to be better than the camo that you normally buy.  I have 2 camos for my Bismarck and 2 for my Cleveland and they are identical.  What's the point beyond looking a bit different?

I've seen an account suggesting that Esmonde did everything wrong on that day, basically YOLO'ed in as if he were trying to die. Sure it's a travesty that he didn't have escort, and the RAF and the Royal Navy basically made every possible mistake that day, but still...

I wish I could remember now where I read that, so I could quote my sources. But that's what my imperfect memory recalls.

And as for a channel dash operation, YES. Mind you, I may be biased in that respect by the fact that I recently acquired a Scharnhorst at a very good price. :Smile_great: Fell off the back of a Kubelwagen, the guy told me.

Although such an event for me would need to include Scharnhorst or else there would be nothing to mount the camo on... :Smile_teethhappy:

Breakout (originally titled Fiasco) is probably the book...but Esmond was under orders (& even w/escorts was aware just how FUBARed he was in a daylight encounter against even 1 of the 3 main ships...let alone all 3 at once even w/out the insane amount of DD & Luftwaffe escorts)...it wasn't a "voluntary" YOLO...not only were the escorts supposed to be there (that were not) but the Swordfish group was on alert in case of a nighttime dash (as they proved very effective in the night engagement w/the Bismarck).

When the other planes (forget what type they were...don't have book handy) that were more equipped for daytime torp runs were unavailable (due to high commands blunders keeping everything "top secret" & not stressing the importance of their necessity to be there) the Swordfish pilots were ordered to attack at all costs.

The RAF & Royal Navy pilots & sailors btw were not to blame for any of it...they all bravely attempted to carried out their orders despite the overwhelming odds against success...it was High Commands idiocy & standard lack of cooperation between branches (both predicted by Hitler himself) that allowed the dash to be so successful.

Not that the results were very successful in the end...removing those ships from Brest allowed valuable resources to be freed up for other engagements & Gnies was taken out of the war less than 2 weeks later on a bombing run & we all know the Scharn's fate from the North Cape battle. Bismarck's escort (Prince Eugen) would be the only 1 of the 3 main ships to survive the war...& then 2 atomic test blasts (which is a testament to German engineering) before being scuttled (due to radioactive contamination) by the US.

So do I. We'd better try to keep this topic on the first page, otherwise we won't get heard.
