PSA: Battleship players in ultimate frontier, for the love of God stop running away from the whole team to kill one carrier. Every time you do that the Cruisers get mowed down by Alabama's and their swarms of DD and CL. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. I. PLAYED. IT. THEY. DID. THAT. AND. LOST. Just stop. Focus on actually completing the freaking OP before trying to go all out for 5 star. When you do, nobody gets any stars.

Mind you this is not one of the Battleships, its all of the Battleships.

Last night I tried Haida in Ultimate Frontier. My CAs failed to kill the 2 DDs from the beginning and they ran north (which was sorta fine). I think Haida could have the best chances of killing Ranger because of her ability to launch her torpedoes one at a time. 4 Torps can get through that small gap and if that fails to kill her, Haide with IFHE can burn her down while running away from Dallas. We still lost horribly but maybe Haida is the key (along with a prepared CV Sniper Strike after Dallas is taken out).

The Leningrad and/or Minsk is a much more capable ship to use for killing the CV. Simply go to the western edge of the map on the E line and smoke while a CV or someone spots for you and you can shoot it down from long distance in smoke. If there is a need to run away, Leningrad has better guns for shooting from distance and much better speed for getting away.

More than likely. Haida can do it because of her torps. Other DDs can probably do it if they have proper CV support (i.e not killed by Dallas and Sims). I am gonna make a thread posting what I think might work.

You are talking about approaching from the southern edge? That doesn't work as my operations division has already tried that. The Raptor will simply send planes to you to attack you and everything near it will then start going after you as well.

My Haida got very very close to getting detected by enemy Dive Bombers. When I say close, he was (in-game) inches from seeing me. Haida I think has better concealment some of the other DDs.

I have been making short strategies and tactics videos and made three very specific videos for the Leningrad. I'll likely be making more general ones later for Ultimate Frontier.

Yeah, that's bad.  ALL of the BB's go after Raptor, Atlanta becomes an issue.  You got lucky, since the transports didn't fly over her and fail the op right away.  Here is another one; run CV, spot Raptor and watch them all head pretty much due south from where they spawned to go after Raptor (while not shooting at the 3 BB's); you know, instead of going west from spawn and getting line of sight without triggering her escorts and/or retaliation from dive bombers and sink her from range?  Oh right, I forgot.  :etc_swear: logic...:Smile_hiding:

One or two good players can't carry this scenario unfortunately.

Form a Div with players you trust, form a plan, anything can be overcome.... almost.

Agreed, I have tried 3 times and was swarmed & killed while dropping shells on the CV, without killing it.

Almost only counts for horseshoes and hand grenades. :Smile-_tongue:

You paraphrased my usual response to "almost"...Horseshoes, Hand Grenades, & Some Small Thermo-Nuclear Devices.

As for he OP...there's 2 diversions:

1st diversion...the easiest ships labeled for "ATTACK" to get are the 1st 2...as soon as the 2nd one spawns the DDs arrive to attack the repair base...bot there is plenty of time before those DDs get there...concentrate on that 2nd ship labeled for "ATTACK" 1st to get that over w/before going for the DDs...it is usually a lighter cruiser & will be much easier to kill then the far off BB that usually spawns as the 3rd option & is much harder to kill w/everything else going on at the time.

The other diversion is the non stop bombers that are sent from CV to take out the 2 southernmost forts at the base (most people just notice the failure of the task & assume some ships took them out...& even though quite often a ship does get the final shot into the forts it is the bombers that usually do the most damage to them...preferably an Atlanta or other heavy AA ship w/DF along w/CV fighters to intercept them before they even get to the forts is a must for 5 starring.

The 2 DDs at the beginning are ridiculous. They spawn at like 8km, which means they're instantly invisible, and when you finally do spot them they smoke up the instant they're hit. And then they proceed to shoot you from inside the smoke. If you don't have a RADAR cruiser with you (which aren't exactly common at tier 7) it makes that opening engagement really challenging. You basically have to alpha them to death before they start using smoke.

If the team have planes, it will be a good time to launch them and use them as a poor man's version of radar.

IF all the BBS are alive then you have a chance to sink the raptor. Mind you IMO the BBs are the only ones with the range and the big caliber of guns to sink it anyways. While everyone else s trying to HE/AP spam from 2 spots to protect the cove... IF a BB fails to do so because he is backing up the cruisers then a competent DD can sneak up sink it. The trick is not to go way down south or out of position chasing the raptor that you can;t sink it VS the incoming HE fire. This Operation is not easy its up there with NSA Newport in the frustration scale for sure.

Now see, the problem I've been seeing is this:

The CL's in the southeast instantly go for the DDs, get torped and die, or walk away with massively low health, then get insta killed by the BBs that spawn in...while all the green BBs go for the CL's that spawn in the northwest. Then they can't get back to engage the red BB's, which waste any surviving cruisers, and it just turns into a massive Charlie Foxtrot from there.

This, on top of the MASSIVE amount of lemming teams, YOLO players, and idiots who bought their way to high tier in Randoms, is just KILLING my enjoyment of the game today.

Then when I say I wish WG do something, literally anything, to try and solve the issue and promote more teamwork, better matches, etc. I get called 'elitist', told 'it's just a game', 'STFU', and so on. Yeah it is just a game, but it's a *team* game, the whole point is coordination. You wanna YOLO, fine, I guess, if that's how you get your rocks off, but you're bringing the rest of us down by not staying in Co Op. Just.... [edited]UGH.

Edit: Maybe all of us here should division up for the operation...seems like if we all feel generally the same way, we'd coordinate tactics and do a lot better than getting matched with random players XD

Yeah, that's the first thing I do when I start the scenario. Launch my float fighter.
