Article on it at this link (with video): https://www.ibtimes.com/russian-warship-130b-gold-onboard-found-113-years-after-sinking-2700914  (Article also contains footage of the sunken USS Helena at the very top for some reason)

Wow, I had no idea. Boy, that battle cost the Tsar more than just the pride of his navy!

Apparently the math is way off, it really comes out to about $8 billion or less.  It is an awesome find though regardless.

It was likely carrying the fleet's treasury to cover expenses for everything and also to keep the Japanese from capturing it if the fleet failed.

According to my math, $100B in gold is about 2,500 Metric Tons

~$40,000/kg

$100,000,000,000 x (1 kg / $40,000) = 2,500,000 kg

2,500,000 kg x (1 MT / 1,000 kg) = 2,500 Metric Tons

Also, 200 short tons (2,000 lbs.) = ~181 Metric Tons

180 MT x (1,000 kg / 1 MT) x ($40,000 / 1 kg) = $7,200,000,000 = $7.2B

That's a eeeuge discrepancy. I'm not sure if the fact that it is Imperial Russian gold and coins adds 1388% value...

A perfect real world story to get a sequel to Goldfinger!
