I've always felt that the end of the game comes too abruptly.  What if you just launched some torpedoes?  What if that salvo you fired hadn't landed yet?  Basically possible damage is being stolen from you at the end of the game.  I feel like a fast forward at the end of the game for any remaining shells/torpedoes that are still in motion should be a thing before closing out the game.  Just because the game ends doesn't mean that torpedo salvo you fired should just go poofed into oblivion.

The game has a time/point limit; games are finished when the win conditions are met, no matter what may have happened later.

You're talking about things that happened before the conditions were met, but then the conditions were met without those objects that would objectively continue on their courses finishing their event.  The event of the shell landing / torpedo moving should finish before the final conclusion of the game.

In basketball, the shot in the air at the buzzer counts. In hockey the goal scored after the buzzer does not.

The game is based on accumulated points.  Either one team reaches 1000, one team reaches 0, or the timer runs out with one team in the lead. You accumulate points by capping, or killing ships, and lose points by losing ships.  Damage is just something that is done along the way to reach those goals.  Once the game reaches a conclusion, all further damage is immaterial, so it doesn't need to count.
