(I hope this isn't violating any forum rules)

In my opinion, above all the jingoism and hubris of 'Murica and all that (not that I don't indulge in that myself at times), it's important to remember these words from the Declaration of Independence:

Quote

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.

Let us celebrate America's birthday not because of its status in the world or any sense of superiority, either real or imaginary, but because of its values and its spirit.

This definitely at minimum gets into some grey areas when it comes to things we aren't supposed to discussion the forums.

And I'd say maybe "ideals" instead of values. What brought my grandparents and great grandparents to this country was the ideals, what they heard of this country and represented, least at the time - things described in that very segment you quote of the constitution - From Alsace, Austria-Hungry, Italy, Northern Ireland. And the "values" seem to vary from person to person, state to state, and whoever is running the government locally, state-wide, or federally. And some of that doesn't jive well with the line of "All men (and women) are created equal" or life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for that matter. Not getting any further into that cause forum rules. But that's my opinion, ideals and spirit are maybe better and more accurate than values and spirit.

Not only do I believe this part does violate forum rules it  is also completely unnecessary  and has been reported as  such
