When you are in a slow BB by yourself and get attacked by cruisers. Is it best to try and kite away or turn towards them and attack.

Never leave your Battle group. You won't have to make that decision. Solo Yolo never works keep your support ships near by.

It kind of depends. If there's a nice island to duck behind, then by all means get behind it, and either blap the cruisers as they try to chase you, or let your allies chase them off. There's also nothing wrong, of course, with letting your concealment go down and to stealth up. On the other hand, if there's really no escape and they're within your concealment range, then aim for the squishiest cruiser and hope that RNG favours you.

(remember to practice good fire control, one fire is 100% repairable and never damcon if it's just one fire unless you're about to sink)

It depends. Are they close enough that you can rush them, forcing them out of cover or behind a mountain they can't fire behind. Can you reverse behind an island to get out of range?  If they're in the open, aim well and enjoy.

In a USN BB you're not fast enough to get away from anything (except Mikasa), and your butt guns are your fewest.  So bow toward and blow them up, one by one, as you burn to death.

Might help to call in support, too.

If its in long range and you are sure you can get unspotted by doing so, stop firing. Then turn and wait for them to get closer, or if they don't take a bit of time to heal up.

It depends on the situation, if you have teammates that are close and are willing to come to your aid and take the heat off you, kite. If you are out by yourself and there is no help available, close the distance but at an angle where ALL guns can shoot at the target. Your ONLY chance to survive is to kill the cruisers quickly or you will die the death by 1000 cuts.

If said cruiser or cruisers have torpedoes should also factor into your decision.

Slow BBs actually have more of an advantage .  Especially with torpedoes being in a faster ship you don't always have the time to turn away from them where as a slower ship well it takes longer for those torpedoes to get to you depending on how far out they are fired.  Shells hitting you is a different story.  If you bow in I'm more than likely just going to spam HE at you.  But you can still do damage bow in.   Just remember the HE spam.

I spawned in my Corbet on far side from other 2 Bb's. And they were pushing away from me and I couldnt keep up. I decided to defend the base. 3 cruisers came from other flank and i was alone.

I tried to kite away trying to fight. Was melted before team showed up to help.

Would it have been better to turn towards cruisers?

Your best "defense" against cruisers in a battleship is to citadel them until they stop being a problem. If the odds are against you, kite away wiggling between keeping them ~180 and ~150 degrees off the bow while you alternate between reloading with the best angle possible and unleashing all your guns with your armor still angled.

Close the distance, using terrain. In general, closing the distance against cruisers in BBs is a good idea.

But in this specific case (assuming 1 v 1 with no other teammates alive, end game situation), if you are winning, hold objectives force cruiser to attack into you. If you are losing already and substantially behind in points, then tough luck, the cruiser can just run.

On a related note Sun Tzu's writing is so relevant in WoWS:

Quote

Appear at points which the enemy must hasten to defend; march swiftly to places where you are not expected.

If you are the slow BB, attack towards objectives, forcing the cruiser  to seek you out and defend.

If you are the cruiser, use your speed and flank the BB, better if the cruiser has torps, flank and torp.

But what if your 'battle group' consists of ships that all go 10 knots more than you and don't wait up.

That was sort of my problem. I was in Corbet othet 2 were both New Yorks. Same speed far side of spawn and moving away with most if team following.

Try to make your way to friendlies, break line of sight to the threats if possible.  If you're caught in lots of open water as a slow BB and you're alone, congrats, you got yourself rekt.

However, if you are a decent Battleship player you can just try to blap the Cruisers.  I heard a few citadels into Cruisers tends to sink them and they stop firing at you.

When you are in a slow BB, you should never be by yourself. If you ask a cruiser to slow down a bit to help you since you are slow, a lot of cruisers will help.

How can you never leave your battle group when you can't even catch up to them?

90% of the time it's your battle group leaving you.

That will fall on deaf ears here, though. On these forums, every battleship player is an idiot holding back their glorious would-be unicum team mates by daring to play a BB.

When you only go 21 knots, all too often your battle group leaves you.

Bow on, FULL speed closing the range so secondarys can get in on the fun if possible. There is a moment where you must decide if your far enough away to escape the lesser range of cruisers by running or if your falling off a cliff anyways you may as well try to fly....Kill em All! some of the [edited] bag cruisers will sit and let you advance not realizing what you are doing until it is too late for them...they assume you will play "defensive" and this is where an aggressive "offensive" move can keel em.

When in Doubt...Attack! - Patton
