Graph:
http://wiki.wargaming.net/en/Battle_Mechanics_(WoWS)

I don't understand that graph....
It's either wrong, or I don't understand how to read it.

For example, take Tier IV and V.

When looking up "Ship Tier IV" it shows 2 highlighted bars on Tier IV, and V.
(Shouldn't it really be Tier III, IV and V? As in: -1/+1?)
When looking up "Ship Tier V"...it shows 3 highlighted bars on Tier V, VI, and VII.
(Shouldn't it really be Tier IV, V, VI, and VII? As in -1/+2?)

I don't get it....

It's showing you the range of maximum tier battles that you can see, not the MM spread.  So for tier 5, they can be put into a 5, 6 or 7 match; tier 4 can be put into a tier 4 or 5 match.

It's actually very confusing because of the use of the term "battle tier". That term refers to the top tier of ship that is present in the match.

A Tier V destroyer could get placed in a "Battle Tier 5", "Battle Tier 6", or "Battle Tier 7" match. Those correspond to a 4-5 game, a 5-6 game, or a 5-7 game.

Not necessarily. Battle tier refers to the theoretical maximum tier of the battle. For example, a tier 8, 9, 10 battle is battle tier 10, but a tier 9, 10 battle without tier 8s is a battle tier 11.

Way to make it even more confusing and include a column that isn't on the graph, lol.

But really, the nomenclature has holes in general. What do you call a 7-8 game? A BT8 that happened to get no 6s? A 9-10 game could be thought of as just a BT10 that got no 8s, unless we know something about the inner workings of the MM that suggests it deliberately tries to spawn BT11s but not (7-8)s.

A fluke.

I did have to look at it twice, but Lert is correct.

The graph itself is shows the Max Tier you could face.

So Tier Is will only see other Tier Is

Tier IIs can see up to Tier III ships.

Tier IV can only see up to Tier V, while Tier V can see up to Tier VII, unless you are a CV.

If tier IV can be put into a Tier V match.
How is it that the graph does not show that a Tier V can be put inside a tier IV match. (they have to see each other for the Tier IV representation to be true)

I still think that graph isn't logical in it's presentation... Needs to be color coded differently or something.

To: Lert.
Umm... there is no Tier 11 representation, on that graph.

Play the game and ignore MM, take the challenge presented to you.

Because if there is a tier V, it's not a tier IV match. It's a tier V match.

BATTLE tier =/= SHIP tier and that graph shows ship tiers.

That chart isn't the easiest to read.

tier tiers seen   tiers in a match
1 - 1              one tier max
2 - 2,3            two tiers max
3 - 2,3,4               "
4 - 3,4,5               "
5 - 4,5,6,7        three tiers max
6 - 5,6,7,8             "
7 - 5,6,7,8,9           "
8 - 6,7,8,9,10          "
9 - 7,8,9,10            "
10 - 8,9,10             "

That makes sense.
That graph is not intuitive, though. It gave me the impression that it was contradicting, itself.

Hmm...
I believe the sentence:
"Each ship has a certain 'combat tier' assigned to it. It determines the maximum level of enemy and ally ships that can be encountered in the battle."

should be changed to:
"Each ship has a certain 'battle tier' assigned to it. It determines the maximum level of enemy and ally ships that can be encountered in the battle."

No where on that graph do the words, "combat tier", appear.
Either c
hanging that line or changing the Graph Heading to read "Combat Tier", would make things a little more coherent.

I think for best coherency, the Graph Heading should read:
"Maximum Ship Tiers Encountered in a Battle."
...instead of "Battle Tier".

but, maybe it's just me....

Look at the top of the graph, and you'll see "Battle Tier."

The highlighted squares, are indicating what Battle Tiers the ship can see.

A Battle Tier, is determined by the highest tier ship in the match, regardless of how many of that tier is present.

If a tier 5 and a tier 4 is present, then by default, the tier 4 is not the highest tier in the battle. Automatically making it a tier 5 battle.
