How can I unlearn what I know, become a potato, and enjoy the game again?

After one final 788 CV division game this weekend of many 788s, I finally uninstalled the game. I am too aware of the game's fundamental flaws and as well, frankly, WG's lack of willingness to fix them.

What I want to know:

  • How can I "unlearn" my awareness of the games fundamental problems?
  • How do people maintain enjoyment of the game at potato status?

So basically, my question is, how do I become a happy potato again so I can continue enjoying the game?

I had a horrible match earlier in my Warspite where an Atlanta HE spammed me to death from full health all while talking smack in chat. I feel ya, there are game mechanics like that example that really ruin my gaming for the day.

Take pleasure in dominating potatoes.

Other then that, I can whack you on the head with a shovel if you want.

The trick is to have to have either a very low intelligence or a very low amount of self-respect. Or both.

Do what everyone does with all games, take time off.  I dropped the game for about 3 months, and have been having a ball since returning.  I think i play more now than i did before i took my break.  Even got myself motivated to grind my favorite lines tier 10s.  Been playing ships i suck in, grinding lines im not good in, generally jsut getting outside my comfort zone.

Ill never understand the "convince me to play this game" mentality.  Especially something as simple as rock, paper, scissor, CV.

Buy a T4 DD and eliminate BBs that sail in a straight line, or become the sailing BB of straight lines

YOLO a bunch with no regard for the consequences.

Also mix up some Trini rum punch. So worth it.

Honestly speaking and this is in no way putting any negative prejudice, but you can just play co op.

By playing co op, you would develop a different habit and might gradually "forget" the other habits.

I think soon this is all the game will consist of for me. Played some battles tonight went 1-6, solid 4-5 radar per match and teams that did not understand what that means.

Now your match is often decided by which team knows how to use radar, and who has the better radar ships. My teams got the 11km broadside DM, they got the island huggers.

Don't know if alcohol even could make someone half competent a 'true' potato... case in point had a game in akizuki last night, we're winning by points very comfortably, 3/4 of my team rush the last defenders.... you guessed it they get annihilated and we go from comfy win to multiple ships down and loosing caps quick. I decide to run rather than risk a loss (running in akizuki is like not fast so need to plan well ahead.) Get abused by the idiots who threw their ships away, still win, get my first solo warrior (gamey I know lol, win was what I was aiming at) and lo and behold I check my karma after and it gets hammered for a win.... case in point potato is not chosen but rather potato choose you imho.

Why not try to do unconventional things. As personal challenges. Such as:

1) Capping in low-mid Tier BBs.

2) Ramming DDs with your carrier.

3) Driving your DDs only in reverse.

4) Use only your cruiser’s torpedos to kill targets.

5) Only use AP on your cruisers and DDs.

6) Only use secondaries on your BB.

7) Play USN CVs.

Or other useless, challenging, unconventional or bizarre approaches to WoWS. Challenge the Meta - begin the Revolution.

I guess it comes down to whether or not you worry about stats. If you don't mind your win rate dropping and just having fun it's one thing, its another if in the back of your mind you are worrying about the loss of win rate etc.

I've encountered quite a few folk lately who take this game pretty seriously and it can lead to some seriously unhealthy consequences. Anger and salt we may joke about but its really unhealthy.

Yeah, stop playing if you start feeling chest pain radiating into your jaw, please.

Been there , Done that

Take a break change your priorities about the game, many of us here have had burnout because of game frustration or focusing on win rates, I know longer care about win rates, although I do my best to win in the moment once the game ends I leave it behind ... Best of luck to Yea

The trick is not to let what other people do get under your skin. Yes, that is very difficult to do.

I already have enough problems with potatoes in my battles, please don't churn out any more!

Honestly, the way I do it, is I take a underpowered ship(usually a BB), and troll the enemy team with it, by using FAR SUPERIOR tactics than would your average player of the same ship, thus, making the enemy team all cry 'cause they can't hit me with their torpedoes, even though I'm in a BB.

I kid you not, it is hilarious.

Here's the thing. I'm good enough at this game that I'm aware of the bad tactics that both my and the enemy team do. I'm aware of the game design decisions which cause the game to be less fun because of their resulting problems.

I can't unsee those things.

Better living through modern chemistry.

Actually i just play the game in short bursts every few months, but given the undeniable mess that WoT has become, ill probably here more.
