Pocket Cruisers!

We've seen pocket battleships, but one thing I've always loved was pocket cruisers.  Cruiser guns mounted on small hulls, generally for coastal defences or whatnot.  A few examples:

HTMS Thonburi (Dhonburi) a Thai ship with Japanese origins.  A relatively small ship with 4 8" guns in 2 twin turrets.  Shorter than a Fletcher!

Makes these cruisers harder to hit.  Thoughts?

HMS Tiger is apparently not a very tiny ship.

Well, we have Ernst Gaede, Z-39, and Z-23 that can all mount 150mm guns :Smile-_tongue:

Edit: I wouldn't mind seeing some monitors or similar ships at lower tiers or in a special mode, even for April Fool's though.

I don't know. When I think of pocket cruisers, I'm thinking of things like Tenryuu, Kuma, Aigle, and Khab.

Smaller (in same cases), just as effective, can probably dodge better, and have torps.

HMS Tiger, a tiny ship carrying 4 6" guns, perhaps a bit modern.  Basically used the guns of the minotaur after she was cancelled.  The guns were automatic though.

Next thing we know is this guy is wanting PT boats. :Smile_teethhappy:

I still want the German spähkreuzers. Enormous destroyers that might as well have been light cruisers. They were basically recon cruisers. Spähkreuzer 40 would've even had a float plane.

UxGo6EA.png

6 5.9"/48 guns

38 knots

+-6,000 tons

Would be really legit at tier 7. 2 hulls (one with torps, one with a spotter plane), hydro, defensive fire, RADAR. Would make a great support ship between a DD and a CL.

I don't mind niche vessels either in the T3/4 - T7 bracket as they can be fun to play. Higher than that, I wouldn't want to see these niche ships.

African Queen

Single use and glorious detonation.

IIRC, technically she got the "It's a Flesh Wound" award, as the German river gunboat they were trying to destroy ran into her sunken hull when the crew was distracted. Whether she also gets the "Naval Warfare: Ramming" achievement is up for debate, as the weapon consisted of a pair of jury-rigged torpedoes jutting out of the bow and intended for detonation on contact.

HMS Tiger was a cruiser. Nothing Pocket about it.

That would so cool! Kinda like a torp bomber squadron but on the water.

Great looking ship and concept, but that's a negative on radar. Especially at tier 7.

Spahkreuzers were destroyer leaders, later variations were actually classed as light cruisers.

They we're ocean-going long-range recon (hence "spah", spy, reconnaissance) destroyers. I don't know if they were ever officially classifies as light cruisers. As far as I can tell the KM always referred to them as destroyers. Really big destroyers that might as well have been cruisers. Pocket cruisers.

I remember in NavyField, you could run a single 11" gun on a Z99.......

Good luck hitting anything though lol.

Fixed that for you.  The name "cruiser" is literally in the name.  They were recon cruisers.

I really wouldn't mind a shorter and stockier cruiser.

I like how the Alabama is shorter than NC and Iowa. It turns better and is a little harder to hit. Maybe if they did that for cruisers with a fictitious design for the KM or IJN (I like their guns better).

Z99 with 6.75" was probably the most OP ship, pound for pound, in the game. At least until the Sevastanoob and submarines hot the game.
