Can Perth/Cossack/Haida style smoke be used to escort another ship at high speed?

Just as the subject above. I know a DD can't keep herself covered at anything over quarter speed, but given the smoke trail remains behind her, can you use that smoke to lead a concealed ship behind her at high speeds (circa 30 knots?). My guess is yes, but I figured others might have had more experience doing so using the Perth.

Afaik you remain hidden in Perth while going quarter speed, with the smoke puffs lasting about 10ish seconds I think. Potentially you could go at full speed behind a smoking Perth but at some point you will overtake her.

I didn't play my Perth for a while but AFAIK no. The smoke only works at 1/4 speed and is gone in about 10 seconds.

if you move above 11or so knots you will be visible if "in the smoke" … that's why Perth has to move at a quarter bell

^This. As long as you don't overtake the ship generating the creeping smoke by too much or fall too far behind you can move and remain in the smoke. I recall seeing a youtube video where Perth was divisioned  with a Scharnhorst and they were doing just that. The Sharn just followed behind the Perth and remained in the smoke.

The PERTH & HUANGHE's "moving smoke" only works at one-quarter speed.  It only lasts for approximately 10 seconds so any ship trailing you would have to be right on your stern.

you could possibly use the smoke to cover a crossing for a team member/div mate, like island hopping or something small and quick

I escort wounded BBS to safety, as well as into close quarters range.  The trick is the other ship(s) have to keep at 1/4 speed and not fire.  Best is if the escorted ship angles away from the Perth’s path in the direction way from the enemy.  Success depends on what the ship you are attempting to assist does.

I  think there might be a little confusion here. I never stated that the destroyer herself would remain in smoke.

If a DD blowing Perth style smoke and moving at 30 knots, knowing she herself won't be covered by smoke, can she use the smoke trailing behind her to conceal another ship behind her assuming the other ship is keeping pace?

Quick Legend:

{} = smoke cloud

<--- DD {  BB  }

A DD like Cossack and Haida has a sub 6km concealment. A secondary specced German BB has a 15km concealment. But a secondary specced BB not firing it's main battery and sitting in smoke does not get spotted. Ergo, could you use something like a Cossack to cause a brawling BB to rapidly push forward while concealed and only firing it's secondary guns?

Broseph behind Perth could be going at Mach 5,  he is concealed.

You can go as fast as you want in smoke that is down.

I know you can follow a DD traveling at full speed and throwing smoke and stay hidden; at lest until you start firing. The smoking DD, of course, will not be hidden.

This.  You can absolutely screen a buddy, but you yourself will be visible if inside detection range.
