Okay, I was low man in a T9 match. Our side won and I survived.

Now imagine my surprise when I look at the tm score:

Why am I second? I killed only 1 ship and I didn't cap. I looked at the detailed report

The only thing I see is that 4 out of the 5 are higher tier than I am. The dd is the same tier as me. Now I know that DD HP's are worth more than other ship classes. Am I right in thinking that the HP of T8/T9 ships are worth more since I was engaging higher tier ships?

You Played the Belfast got 12 Cits on higher tier ships.

Citadel Hits are Exp boosts and considering your Cits were on the higher tier ships your Exp Blossomed

Things that are excellent at gaining xp:

  • damaging higher tier ships
  • dealing higher proportion of damage to ships
  • capping (in particular the capture ribbon, not so much the assist in capping ribbon)

You'd be surprised at what this means: I did a grand total of 19k damage in a Bayern once but still get nearly 1k base xp because nearly half of that was done to a destroyer.

100% damage + kill to a ship 2 tiers above you.

Good amount of defense ribbons.

^

Pretty much.

More like 98%, but I'll go with in.

So lesson is: There is an upside to being low ship in a high tier match. Just be sure to survive and help win the match.

You had a good game in a tier 7 ship while bottom tier! While you didn't cap you still did in that Neptune, scored a good deal of ribbons, spanked a DD for nearly 1/2...

Damage against a higher tiered opponent is worth more XP.

DD HP make up a larger % of their total HP pool so technically yes, DD hit points are worth more. It's why I have a 32k overall damage but a 2.0 KDR. I kill Destroyers, and generally don't chase damage.

I have an average damage 3x my ships hit points usually.

That's why stats are funny like that. You can't just hold up one number and say it's the be all end all. You need to know the 'story' of the stats too.

Health percentage you dealt. Dealing 1000 points of damage to a Destroyer, will net you more experience than 1000 damage to a battleship.

Damaging higher tier ships than you, also gives you more experience as well.
