Main guns listed as AA

 Greetings all,

Was wondering if someone could clear this up for me. I was window-shopping the Minotaur(still in Edi), and noticed her main guns listed under the AA tab as well as artillery.

How does that work? Is it just a statistical boost? No effect, just words on a tab? Is there a button I have never heard of that will turn over mains to the AA logic/targeting? Is there a way to manually target aircraft with mains in some sort of AA mode?

 Inquiring minds want to know...

Thanks for your attention, and may your rounds never fall short.

All aa is AI controlled. All you can do is select a target for a small boost in dpm. Historically, some ships could use their main guns as aa mounts. In the game your main guns count as an aa mount, and they add to your aa dpm, but you as the player see no difference

Tl;Dr- statistical boost

Historically some gun mounts used on ships are known as dual purpose mounts, capable of shooting at surface as well as air targets. You can just continue to shoot at surface targets and they'll automatically shoot at airplanes too, at the same time, without interruption. AA is a bubble around the ship that's separate from surface usage of guns.

Only guns listed as dual purpose...

For example Atlanta's main guns are dual purpose.

I do wish that the in-game gimmick Defensive AA Fire boost would only apply to vessels with DP main armaments, and disable their anti-surface ability while active...

Sometimes this game is just TOO arcade...

The clearest example of the main battery being the AA battery in the game is probably Atlanta.  The 5"/38's are dual purpose and the ship's historical primary use was as an antiaircraft cruiser.
