They must have put the Collision Avoidance System on steroids.  Before you used to be able to wrest control when you needed to beach or go in a different direction at a Y juncture.

No more.  Ain't nuffin wresting control from the new 800 lb gorilla CSA.

I play with it on.  Saves me from discovering uncharted islands.  Fewer finders fees but fewer holes in the boat.

Turn it off or switch to "only in binocular mode" , otherwise it's just painful, especially if you play something like Atlanta or RN cruisers and need to hug islands at all times.

It is nice to have it as a little safety cushion when you're zoomed in while weaving through islands.

I remember having it on when i was still fairly new.  but after an incident, i turned it off.

I was heading to an island to use it as cover, then the  game said "hey, you're about to beach.  let me fix that for you!"  shortly after it did a hard turn  to the side of the island that i couldn't countermand, which left me broadside to the enemy team, followed by a boom shortly after.

I shut it off the  anti  collision system after it made me eat enemy ordnance and spoiled my return fire by making ship do rapid turn. True you run the risk of hitting an island with that feature turned off, but you can be far worse with it on. I mean look how the AI bots drive, do you really want your ship sailing like those Bots???

The collision avoidance system is more of a collision assurance system.

Experiences like this are why most experienced players turned it off.

In my case, I was trying to flee between two islands that had a third island to my direct front. System decided to avoid the third island by driving me into the second. Kaboom.

Same here, I turned it off.

once I was going to pass through a channel between two islands and it decided the best course of action was to notser one of them... had it not engaged I would have made it through. Of course that led to my sinking (not without taking the other ship down with me tho).

I've noticed the same thing Blasto mentioned, except it seems Collision Avoidance wants to turn the longest distance to avoid an OP island and I have to take control.
