anyone have the shell damage formula laying around somewhere? I've scoured the edges of the earth and can't find it again. i know its weight, velocity dependent but i cant remember the rest...

I know some people have tried to work out a formula, but there are always exceptions, like German AP for example does more damage than it 'should', as does large caliber RN HE.

AP: travels a set distance through armor and detonates in ship interior; penetration characteristics vary on a ship-to-ship basis and decrease with range

Bounce: 0% of listed damage

Overpen: 10% of listed damage

Regular pen: 33% of listed damage

Citadel pen: 100% of listed damage

 

HE: explodes on impact of any surface with area of effect, can start fires; penetration depends solely on caliber and remains the same at all distances

Shatter: 0% of listed damage

Regular pen: 33% of listed damage

Citadel pen: 100% of listed damage

 

As Lert says, there are exceptions, but these are the general rules

no thats not what were on about. we're talking about the actual formula to calculate AP damage.

Oh that. AFAIK they start with shell weight or caliber and then just adjust it per ship, I don't know if there's a set formula determining how they fudge the numbers.
