I'm a relatively new player with about 900 battles. Im okayish at aiming. I saw the musashi and fell in love. Im grinding the myogi to get the kongo atm. I kind of like myogi cuz 3300 per shell isnt bad. Dispersion is baaaaaad though. Do you guys have any tips or tricks as well as any guides or helpful advice/tips or things i should keep in mind. Spotter plane aiming advice would also be great :)   Thanks.

Sure, send me an invite to division if you catch me online. The Japanese BBs are pretty good, but they can be easily misplayed. They have good range and accuracy, but shouldn't snipe.

Getting to now the flow of a battle (when to push and when not to) will take time, but will pay huge dividends. Eventually, you will find yourself able to really influence the outcome of a battle!

Firstly, IJN BBs feature very reliable range and performance in their guns.  USN BB guns start getting more rounded and competitive only at Tier VIII-X, prior to that they got huge range issues.  IJN BBs are never in lack of range and their dispersion tends to be very good for BBs.  You live and die by the performance of your guns, and how long you can make your IJN BB survive so that it can keep pumping out shells.

Secondly, IJN BBs feature respectable speed.  Not as fast as German, French BBs but definitely not like the USN BBs where many are straddled with HORRIBLE 21kt or worse speeds.  Use this speed to get to a fight in good time, but do not use the speed to put yourself into trouble so deep that you got zero chance to save your ship.  Hurry to position smartly, do not hurry to get rekt.

Thirdly, IJN BBs still have citadels to protect, even Yamato.  Brawling is not an ideal thing for IJN BBs anymore, not after the arrival of German BBs years ago.  Amagi can kind of get away with it because she's deceptively armored and kind of annoying to citadel, but I wouldn't tempt fate even with her.  Another reason to avoid brawls is that Musashi and Yamato have among the worst turret traverse in game.  It's very hard for them to keep up as the range gets closer and the opponent is maneuvering to get to your sides.  The guns cannot keep up in tracking them.  Learning to maintain the intermediate gun range from previous IJN BBs prepares you for this in Yamato, Musashi.

Fourth, IJN BBs in general, with the unique exception of Tier VIII Premium Kii, have horrid to very mediocre AA capability.  The IJN historically had some of the most shoddy AA guns ever put out on a serious navy in WWII and this reflects in WoWS.  You should be very concerned with Carriers, so in a CV match, DO NOT SAIL ALONE.  A lone, isolated BB, especially one with poor AA, is simply low hanging fruit for a Carrier to find and pick up.

My general, very basic suggestion to play IJN BBs?

Spoiler

Angle and make it annoying to get solid hits on you.  This limits the amount of big shells crashing into you and it protects your citadel.  You must also be very conscious about WHO can see your sides.  Just because you are well angled to some guys that are in front of you, does not mean you are well angled to some guys 45 degrees to the side.  From their perspective, you are broadside to them.

IJN BBs as said before, have pretty reliable guns.  They have the best dispersion of all BB Lines, even better than the high powered USN 16"/50 guns of Tier IX-X that can slot Artillery Plotting Room Mod 2.  They are very good in the intermediate BB gun range, 15km, give or take a few km.  At 15km, many BBs, especially German ones, struggle to hit things reliably.  At 15km, that's your game as an IJN BB.  You are close enough to make more reliable shots, while at the same time you start becoming a harder target to nail for some other BBs.  Do not emphasize Long Range Gunnery, because even with IJN BBs those are low hit % shots.  By all means, take the long range shot if it looks good while closing range to a better fighting position, but don't be one of those idiots parking at 18km+ all game with very few hits and poor damage.

Use your speed to dictate your engagements in your favor.  Use it to fight at the ranges YOU want to fight in.  Use your speed to make the chase of a fast German BB longer in trying to get you, use your speed to get into proper position.  Around the mid-tiers, this is very important because some IJN BBs float around 25kts and start encountering fast sailing Scharnhorst, Gneisenau, Tirpitz, Bismarck, etc.  In the case of Fuso, Nagato, who are slower than Ze Germans, the easiest way to defend yourself from the charge of a German BB trying to get into knife fighting range is to sail with friends, especially friendly DDs.  If Ze Germans want to charge you, then they get focused down hard by your teammates.  Also, friendly DDs in front of you means you got early torpedo warning, detection, as well as a deterrent against BB charges.

IJN BBs start featuring 410mm guns in Tier VII with Nagato.  Use that power to perforate and overmatch the bows of other BBs same or lower tier than you.  Aim for the bow of an angled BB from Tier VII and below and get good Penetration damage.  Another nice thing about 410mm guns is that some CAs in the German & US Lines have 27mm bows.  This lets them bounce 380mm or smaller AP shells on the bow.  But not against 406mm/410mm or larger guns.  When you get a 460mm armed BB, Musashi or Yamato, you don't care about other peoples' bow armor... You can just Penetrate them for good damage when they're angled, some you can even citadel from the bow.

Some BBs will however be able to resist 406mm/410mm AP while bow on, well angled.  You can either keep the AP slotted and go for turrets or superstructure hits, or switch to HE.  Keep in mind, IJN BB guns' power lie in their AP.  You should always be looking to plant AP into some ideal target.  If the target is angled against you, then take a quick look around.  There may be another target nearby that may not as be well angled to you.

Battleships in general start making a big change in gameplay from their previous tiers for Tiers IX-X.  Izumo, Yamato, Musashi play nothing at all like Amagi, Fuso, Nagato, Kongo.
