Friendly fire damage penalty is too severe

Just had a ranked game today where I was trying to help finish off an enemy BB who was brawling our BB.

I was managed to kill him right before he was able to ram. Unfortunately, a shell landed on our BB and started a fire.

For some reason that single fire caused TK penatly, and inflicted back thousands of damage on my Des Moines.

Honestly, I don't know why friendly fire damage penalty is so severe that could easily turn around the result of one game.  Imagine that fire is started by a DD and it could easily kill him with the penalty. At least reduce the fire damage penalty to percentage. But in general, I don't see what I did wrong in that scenerio and don't see the point of penalty due to fire caused by one random dispersion.

I think they said they are going to fix this, because it would cause a team to sometimes lose two people off the bat if someone hit another teammate with say, a few torps.

Are the penalties they put in harsh? Yes.

Due they need to tone all the penalties they put in down? yes.

After around 5k games, and having a Des - you should know the answer. It doesn't matter that it was "random dispersion" - You fired HE rounds in the direction of a friendly ship that could, and was, hit by them. Things like that trying to "save" a teammate a teammate just as easily kill them. Case in point I'm guessing in the brawl he had to use his DCP and you set him on fire again. Maybe he would have finished it off without the shot that hit him before a ram, or dodged the ram attempt.

If there's a chance  you might hit the teammate - don't take the damn shot. Decent chance you'll do more harm then good.

pretty sure team damage is st@pid but if they insist on keeping it they should tally it in total this way the jerks who enjoy running into everyone at the beginning of the match dont get a free pass.

Dispersion has bit me too when trying to save a teammate in close quarters. But it is still friendly fire. I, for one, do not want to see friendly fire removed from the game as I believe it adds some realism back into the game.

If I didn't take the shot, then I took the risk of him being rammed by a low health target.

If this were random battle, I could care less whether he got rammed or not. But in ranked, every ship matters and I took the shot because I wanted to win.

Think about if it was real life you would be Court Marshaled and sent to Leavenworth for Murdering your own men. So pink is not so Bad.:cap_cool:

Is Leavenworth used by the navy?

Changes nothing though, ran just as much risk you manage to accidentally kill him yourself.

The USDB is the U.S. military's only maximum-security facility that houses male service members convicted at court-martial for violations of the Uniform Code of Military Justice. Only enlisted prisoners with sentences over ten years, commissioned officers, and prisoners convicted of offenses related to national security are confined to the USDB. Enlisted prisoners with sentences under ten years are confined in smaller facilities, such as the nearby Midwest Joint Regional Correctional Facility or the Naval Consolidated Brig at Chesapeake, Virginia. Corrections personnel at the facility are Army Corrections Specialists (MOS 31E) trained at the U.S. Army Military Police school located at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, as well as Marine and Air Force corrections personnel.

How would I kill an almost full HP BB with 1 fire? Even if I put on 3 fires, he wouldn't die. And he could easily repair back later on.

Bottom line, if he got rammed, he is guaranteed to die. Taking the shot was honestly my only choice. Being penalized heavily for your only choice simply means the system is problematic.

I see a couple of possibilities here. One, you had built up a fair bit of team damage recently or two, he couldn't or wouldn't put the fire out and the fire did enough damage to trigger your pink.

Every ship is important in Randoms too. Since you thought there was a good chance of his being rammed turning pink is a small price to pay to save a ship.
