I hate what ifs with a passion. However what if you pull your current commander of say the New Orleans. Do I get to stuff him into the tier 7 NO when it drops down and then pocket the replacement? The reason I ask is how the commanders will be replaced based on the Dev blog. I'd much rather keep a 19 on my Cleveland but the way updates work it seems to do that I would have to put him in reserve prior to the patch drop.

I read that, hence what I wrote. It ain't covered in the notes.

If you follow through to the post by @Gneisenau013 referenced in that thread, you will find the following tidbits:

Quote

All commanders and XP earned with cruiser Cleveland will be transferred to the Tier VI cruiser Pensacola.

All commanders and XP earned with cruiser New Orleans will be transferred to the Tier VIII cruiser Baltimore.

I would also like my Cleveland captain to stay with the ship, but it is likely easier to code the commanders staying in tier and adding a new commander for the new ship.

This will work fine for all my heavy cruisers.

I'm hoping for a discounted/free respec/retraining period after the split.

I am now so grateful that the 10 point commander I won in ops has not yet gone into a ship. He's still nominally specialised for the Erie. I'd originally planned to have him go into the Cleveland and hence the Pensacola, but with the Shinonome and Yamamoto missions underway, he needs to be in the Cleveland. So I'll retrain him to the Cleveland after the split and decide what to do with the 8-pointer I've got afterwards.
