Moving from Kiev to Tashkent to Khabi

I have Kiev and am moving up the line. Is the Taskent even worth getting on the way--or just skipping? Everything I've read doesn't sound inspiring and I'm thinking of just skipping the ship. I'd be interested in hearing from those who have owned her what their experience was. Thanks!

Tashkent is great in the right hands!  An example game of how you Tashkent:

VJlqECZ.jpg

Burn baby burn!  And usable torps unlike Khaba.

It's a different play style from Kiev though.  Can't jump into caps due to high detect and more of a perimeter harasser like Khaba.

I would not free xp past it.  I kept mine and perma camo'd it even though I have both Khaba and Kiev.

You should never skip any ship.  Knowing all the strengths and weaknesses of a particular ship also helps you to fight against one.

Oh and I also want to point out that Tashkent is a DD killer.  You can pretty much take out any DD with it besides a Khaba.

I think the reason for the Tashkent hatorade is two fold:

1) It did have problems in earlier versions and was buffed after that.
2) People don't know how to play it after Kiev.  It's a learning curve to adjust to it.

On the bright side Khaba had some nerfs to it's torps and gun range that Tashkent did not suffer.  So in some ways Tashkent can outperform Khaba!  Particularly in the gun range and torp department.  I've had knife fights between Khabas and Tashkents on either side and the trick for a Tashkent to fight a Khaba is to stay 14km from it where Tashkent can hit Khaba but Khaba can't hit back.

After finishing the Tashkent grind I was like; Khaba sucks. Tashkent has better range and better torps.

Got to like Khaba a bit more now.

I had the same reaction when I first got Khaba.

Tashkent is possibly my favorite DD.  Sure, Khab is stronger, but the range of Tash's guns and torpedoes makes Tash waaaaaay easier to play. Seriously, you gotta learn Tash to be able to Khab. Don't skip it.

Yes, if Khab and Kiev had a baby it would be Tashkent.  But I guess that's how it supposed to work in the tech tree :)

Agree with this sentiment, and likewise it didn't take long for it to wear off.

I think the biggest adjustment with the Khaba is getting comfortable with your 50mm plate armor -- its downright unnatural at first shattering 203mm HE for example.  Another example in the Tash, even as buff as it is and with heal, a close range fight with a Gearing or a Yoyo is going to leave one of you dead and one of you mostly dead.  In the same fight in Khaba, Gearing will be lucky to take a few thousand off of you before you melt him (unless you give him a straight broadside for AP or you eat a torp).

^^^ This.  I am very careful getting in close with Tash, will usually avoid it unless necessary. With Khab, I'll close with any destroyer, none of this "Kite away from a gearing" nonsense. Just kill them.

Man I enjoyed that ship when it was still known as the Trashcan.  Its pretty solid ship to learn how to kite and harass plus I would rather save that fxp for some other T9 to skip.

Much better than the Kiev. Stock is a bit of a pain, but once you upgrade your guns they are great. Kiev is dogged by slow traverse guns and useless stock torps. Tashkent gets same guns stock, but upgrades to Khaba guns. The 18 second traverse for a gunboat is a bit crap, but upgrade the guns, and it's a monster. I skipped he Kiev grind and got Tashkent... Best decision since I skipped Izumo.

Tashkent is basically what every Russian DD (even the Khab) wishes it was. Because Tashkent has un-nerfed 15.4km gun range with AFT.

Is fast too. I did like my T7 Kiev, more than my T9 Tashkent (and hated the T8 tash, and loved t9 udaloi - all pre-line split ofc.) But T9 Tashkent is a beast if you play your positions properly. You can, AND SHOULD sit in, or behind your cruiser line, and burn, baby burn, things to death. Focus things on low-health always. Your rapid rate of fire to get Fires going is how the Tash wins games. You stay alive, and mobile, and NOT the primary target.

In many ways both Tashkent and Udaloi are better gunboats than Khaba, especially when it comes to range and manoeuvrability. Khaba does struggle a lot with the range with max range almost 2km short of Tashkent and 1.5km short of Udaloi. Although for some reason I didn't do very well in Tashkent, much better in Khaba. At the same time, I'm finishing levelling alternative soviet DD line and I feel like Udaloi is a much better multi-purpose gunboat. With Udaloi as well you can get both heal and smoke which is amazing to get out of tricky situations and you get DFAA which makes CVs very sad. The range is great, manoeuvrability with upgraded hull is pretty decent and you even have a minor stealth torp window.

Tashkent is a true DD, with good maneuverability, good torps and smoke. I love her. And it was a real hero in real life, something Kiev and Khabacant say.

Khaba is a strange thing, a litle cruiser with no citadel, some armor and short range. Forget about the torps.

In Tashkent you can act as a true DD when you are lone DD in ranked, in Khaba simply not.

The Khab is mostly useless in the current meta.  With all the HE spamming the Khab takes too many hits to remain in the game.  You don't need skill to hit the Khab, just rate of fire.

Just to tag on this topic in a related way - I only have one skilled RUDD captain. 13 points invested, 3 available.

Priority Target, Last Stand, Survivability Expert, Advanced Firing Training, Demolition Expert. So, fires and range.

With my remaining 6 points available, for the Kiev, Tashkent and Khabarovsk, should I either:

1) IFHE and Adrenaline Rush

2) Basic Firing Training, Adrenaline Rush and Preventative Maintenance?

More damage with IFHE would be nice but I'd sap my firestarting ability. Modules on Minsk were knocked out often so I definitely see the use of PM, which I could only (effectively) use if I didn't take IFHE.

I am guessing that this build would also be viable on Ognevoi, Udaloi, Grozovoi, and that Concealment Expert just isn't worth it for the Russian DDs?
