Pretty sure that's an F9F-8T (also known as a TF-9J once the new nomenclature system became effective.)

I'd also like to point out that hang-drying was always preferred to tumble-dry due to the fragile nature of the pilots' egos.  It allowed them to remain properly fluffy and retain sufficient bounce. 

But that may just be an old blackshoe story.
