Sleeping giant is perhaps the most new example of there are geologist in WG:s dev team. Caldera is easily seen and minor exhaust cone after major event is clearly visible. Some other maps has warm springs and multiple maps has islands with multiple magma-layers.

May I ask? So who is that map developer?

It's all a conspiracy to educate us with something useful.  If you can't shoot over it, hide behind it, or torp around it....   ignore it.

But seriously...   You bring up a great point.  The folks making the maps are showing their genius and experience brought together from geological examples found all over the world.  Kudos to WG for employing these folks as of late.

It's much better than waterfalls coming out of mountain peaks.

IIRC lavatubes can allow pressurized water to pour out of a mountain.

Martian Geology?  Cept of course the water fall...and blue sky...and Pagoda...and ship in the foreground.  Source of a waterfall like that from a pin prick of a mountain peak...lol?  Obviously artesian...near sea level...from a pressure soure --err umhh...well its mars so dont sweat the science.

This thread had some photos of real life volcanic springs flowing from the top of volcanic mountains but apparently the images have expired. Maybe someone else has them saved.

Maybe the early inhabitants of this island installed a pump system to create the waterfall, using a secret energy source?  Then they could hide their pirate treasure behind the curtain of water at the bottom...

Check out Angel Falls in Venezuela for similar geology.

Good recommendation. That would be a pretty sight to see in person.

It's all those radar waves passing through the island, forcing the water out.

Actually there are two ways I can see that happening. One is by vulcanism, where that is a hot spring being pushed up through an upended lava tube. The other way is an artesian system from a nearby higher-elevation watershed, again pushing the water through an upended lava tube.

Or maybe the dragon has something to do with it...  lol

lol -- the hydrostatic pressure alone would have blown that little pin prick of a rock tower apart long before any majestic water fall appeared from its crown.  but of course its not only hydrostatic acting on the thing -- assuming of course as I already pointed out its some goofy attempt at showing an artesian condition...on a pin prick island peak...in the middle of the ocean.  Lol!

the dragon is an actual geologic formation
