I just gotten it treid 3-4 battles in it, and I hate it.
I don't seem to understand how this ship plays at all.
With most of it's guns in rear, and eating cits at all angles, ( a North Carolina gotten 10+k dmg off of me in one salvo when I turned bow on to him from around 9-10 km away) the ship feels useless.

What tips can you guys give me for this ship in random battles? I have the ship speced for range, mobility and fires, without spotter. (I always miss with that flying in the air, not worth it for me), captain dose have CE

Kiting. Try sailing away at an angle and keeping towards the maximum range on your guns so you can try to avoid the worst of the incoming shells. Once the enemy has thinned out some you can play more aggressively. Alternatively you can find a BB to escort and maybe they'll take some of the focus away from you or an island to hide behind until the numbers thin. Once it's grinded out the ship becomes more bearable.

Oh,  yea..that makes much more sense. I'll work on that
I'll have to stop playing this ship like a USN ship.
Thanks for the help!

Did you like the Admiral Hipper?  The playstyle doesn't differentiate that much, except that you tend to kite more with 2/3rd's of your turrets at the rear.

I wouldn't judge her stock at 3 or 4 battles.  Kiting is really effective, as KingCakeBaby, says.  It's not unusual to eat cits from a BB in a cruiser from 10km or less away, so stay a bit further away (10 to 15km) and burn down the BB's (float plane works great for that, too).  Move in on any cruisers and hit them with AP when they show broadside.

It's a super Nurnberg.

Step 1: Get into contact range and start turning when you feel like you're a bout to get spotted.

Step 2: Turn tail and get those back two turrets working. Use the front turret sparingly.

Step 3: Wiggle and shimmy you're way back until you're safe and unspotted.

Step 4: Rinse and repeat.

Step 5: ??!???

Step 6: Profit

Exactly this.

I like to support DDs who push a cap. Little buddy spots a red DD and I send enemy team high-velocity German regrets. If a cruiser appears, I turn away (ready to run and kite), wait until he's a bit broadside, and then unload AP as fast as I can. Friendly DDs usually like the help too.

Or I shadow a friendly BB and keep the torpedo and aircraft population down in his area.

BBs are floating campfires until they target me, when I run like hell. And I never let them get close. Torps are for YOLO runs and scaring enemies into turning.

Any time I don't have a juicy target, I go dark and look for some place to lend support. If they can't see me, they can't target me. And if priority target tells me the reds are interested, I turn tail and wiggle my way towards max range.

Get the Main Battery upgrade and enjoy the ship!

Hey

The Roon is a blast to play; I like it better than Hindenburg myself because most people ignore you and you can keep farming damage.  Most people take the ROF upgrade but I chose to take the range mod since I like to stand off and spam HE on those campy high Tier BB's and when using double steering gears, she is quite nimble (better than Hindy) and can dodge their shells.  If you turn away and kite, those dual back turrets are very useful.  She plays a little different but is a great boat; she won't do quite the damage possible as Hindy but overall, I like it better because she is less likely to get focused fired.   It's my first boat with 19pt captain and a permanent home.
