Id say the Bama, hands down, its easier and tankier. The Eugen isn't bad, but it takes more skill and if you think you can handle it then go for that.

I have both botes and each of them are good. PE will be getting a heal possibly next patch and that'll improve her survivability a lot though she's already a tough ship. Bammy is a excellent BB, I thinks she's the best tier 8 BB and she can do fairly well against tier 10s.

If you can afford it, get both.

I agree getting both ships is best idea, but if you can only get 1 of them since both are historically famous ships perhaps  decide which one you feel you like history of better. Also can depend on if you are better with BBs or CAs.

Both are fun but their play styles are completely different.  If I had to give up one the PE would be the one to go, the Alabama to me is much more fun to play.

With the exception of a possible heal, retraining potential, minus the normal cost, and several other small differences from Hipper; Prinz Eugen is more a name than anything else.

If you can only afford one ship, and don't suck at battleships; get Alabama, then Hipper when you reach T8 on the German cruiser line.

Prinz Eugen is an unbelievably splendid beauty, and my third or fourth favorite ship! That's my input.

Alabama. The combination of torp protection better than all but Yamato/Musashi (which is the highest torp protection possible), very good AA, good mobility/turn rate, and guns that can go toe-to-toe with T10s is too good to ignore.

Eugen has an appeal all its own, as the escort to Bismarck when the Hood was detonated. It's not actually a noticeably different ship compared to the Hipper, but if you don't want to grind German CAs and do want the namesake, there's no substitute.

I'd get both, and am halfway there myself (I got the Eugen first because arbitrary decision making).

More than a name. She's a pretty good ship but I've rarely played her for a long time because without a heal she's fodder when up against the tier 10s (all of which have heals) that she's endlessly bottom tiered against. I've done pretty good with her for as long as she's survived against 10s. +2 -2 MM is what's hurt PE more than anything else. Hell, I cant remember the last time I was top tier in a tier 8 ship.

Prinz Eugen.

Alabama provides nothing new in terms of gameplay, compared to north carolina. Very little reason to pay so much money for something you can get from tech tree already.

Prinz Eugen will be interesting with the new heal. She will be different from Hipper. Having good HP, armor and heal will make her the T8 cruiser with the best staying power.

With more carriers in the game PE is a great ship for supporting your BBs vs carriers, cruisers and BBs. Besides it is fun to rush 15 inch BBs, bounce their AP and torp them to death :)

Hence I’d rather seen them giving it DF together with hydro, instead of the heal. She’s real sturdy.

I do have the Alabama, but I found BB play boring, so Ill save my opinion on that one.

PE hands down. 'Bama is a waste, probably should be Tier 6 at best.

Both are good options:

Eugen is a very strong captain trainer, thanks to the extra Captain XP that the camo grants. Her performance when played correctly is solid, and her income good. But you need to be able to perform well in German Cruisers, or you‘ll struggle. If she gets buffed now it‘ll be better of course.

Alabama is a strong T8 ship and easier to play than Eugen, but afaik lacks the extra camo benefits of Eugen.

In the end it comes down to the following question: What ship type do you prefer, and what Captain would you prefer to level?

Both are good. (I have both).

I do not understand the equating of the ships in the question.

Are you a  BB main? Are you a CA main? That would answer your question. You can't compare two different classes, and what do you like/perform with best.

Well, you don't have a lot of experience in the game overall and what you do is mostly CV which plays different. You might be rushing it a bit going for a T8 BB or CA at this time? Hard to tell. At least you have made it to T5/T6 in regular ships and aren't doing this as a T1 player.

You seem to prefer BB's to Cruisers at least in games played so of the 2 I would say Alabama. Both are excellent ships. However seeing as you would now see T10 battles I would say Alabama would give you a better shot at surviving.

Bama is actually a good bit different than NC, it is a much shorter version of the NC and is this much more maneuverable, AA is great but so is NCs. Torp protection is better. The big negative for me is the 700 m/s shell speed on the AP (the HE magically jumps to 800m/s), I would really love to see the historical evidence on this as it really hampers the ship. If you can get gud at slinging these slow pitch softballs though it works out well, otherwise you need to stay at 12-14km to reasonably expect hits with these main guns.

Eugen is solid, like all German cruisers, and may get even better with the addition of Repair Party in the next patch. My gut tells me they patch right before Ranked Season starts.

Either ship would be fine for ranked but plan a lane a learning curve for Bamas slow shell speed if you choose her.

I currently have both of these ships. If you want a ship you can do well in with relatively little effort, I would go with Alabama. Bama has similar gun performance to NC but the rudder shift and torpedo belt for extra survivability.

Now if you want a ship that gives you a challenge, but rewards you handsomely for good play as well as gives you that underdog edge, then PE is the right choice for you. She’s the toughest tier 8 cruiser in the game, and with the upcoming heal she will be even stronger. And that’s ignoring the immense captain training and credit earning benefits. Also I don’t expect we will see PE again for a while so keep that in mind.

Final thoughts: If I were you I’d take Eugen, I’ve found she rarely disappoints.

Can't help you decide as I don't have either but can expand the historical significance on Eugen a little here (in case historical significance is a determining factor in your decision).

After the Bismarck was sunk Eugen joined the Gnies & Scharn & accomplished something even more historically significant than the sinking of the Hood (not to diminish the loss of the Hood but it was highly out classed in that battle)...The Channel Dash.

11th-13th February 1942...Since the beginning of British Naval history no other enemy ships ever successfully crossed the English Channel during wartime.

The book "Breakout" (Bantam books April 1982...originally titled "Fiasco" & published May 1970 by Stein & Day) is a documentary style book on the subject but it reads like a suspense novel...because it seems there is no way that all the things that occurred could have happened in real life. A tragic comedy of errors on British high command.

I love my Prinz Eugen.   Some of that is due to her historical associations.   She is due to get a buff here soon in the form of a heal, but even with that, she will still be challenging to play.

If you don’t love Prinz Eugen for the ship she represents....

I’d say go with Alabama. She’s possibly the best Tier 8 battleship right now with hard hitting guns, good armor, good maneuverability, good AA, and amazing torpedo defense.  She’s much easier to play and will produce great results for you.

Other factors to consider:

- Do you like battleships or cruisers more?

- Do you want to train German or US captains?

Considering your very low battle count, I don't think you wanna go buy yourself a t8 premium. Very likely, not ready for t8.  That said, the Prinz is probably the more challenging of the two ships to play, and probably the weaker (though we will see how much the heal helps when added).

Alabama is a good bote that works best from mid range (~14km), great turning radius, and the torp protection is amazing.

Now if I can just get someone to be kind enough to buy me a PE, I can give you a fair comparison. :Smile_teethhappy:

The Alabama's guns are powerful and she has good mobility. I had great success with the ship in the last season of Ranked, and she'll be my #1 tier eight pick for the upcoming season as well. She has good forward-firepower and her armour is strong when angled. But she's very easy to citadel if her side is exposed. AA protection is strong, especially if you go for an AA build. With the Alabama, you can constantly be in action. The North Carolina plays similarly to the Alabama so you can try it out on the Public Test server (if the Alabama isn't available). Currently, your account on PT should have tier eight ships with 15-point commanders.

The Prinz Eugen is a support cruiser. Her main guns are limited in number and she's very vulnerable when up-tiered. But her guns pack a decent punch with AP. Their long firing range suits her initially-passive playstyle. She shines in the later stages of the match where the enemy is split or isolated. I went for mobility/rudder-shift upgrades to help with dodging enemy fire. This also helps with getting within range to use her torpedoes - two 6 km triple-launchers on both sides! And the Adler camouflage looks awesome. The Prinz Eugen plays pretty much exactly the same as the Admiral Hipper, so you can try it out on PT too.

Overall, I recommend the Alabama. She's fun to play with, and is the more beginner-friendly premium of the two.
