Decisions decisions decisions!

I wanted to go for 350*VI but that's kind of a noob choice.

I wanted to go for consumable +1 but it's more or less of a pyschological boost.

Help me decide!

BFT for the secondaries (actually no)

Basics of Survivability or Vigilance because you have no meaningful torpedo protection to speak of.

Do you plan to take this commander up the line or stay on bayern or eventually keep him on another ship?

On Bayern

VI is the tier I'm most comfortable with, tons of noobs, and the good player don't give it 100%.

As long as I have a half decent CV on my team I'll do great.

Torp bomers are a [edited].

I personally go for BoS because you burn more than you need to avoid torpedoes.

Superintendent is great when a game goes long and that extra heal keeps you alive.

I dont get this game. Tier 2 was pretty much full of useless perks then all of sudden tier 3 becomes all gold.

Adrenaline Rush is never useless.

Whatever you do, don't take Survival Expert on a BB please.  Either take Superintendent, BFT for the secondaries or Basics of Survivability for fire reduction.

Those three choices are normally the best for any BB.

BoS would be great if it were -25% instead of a measly -15%.

Vigilance would be wonderful if it were 50%... I'd avoid a lot of torps.

In that case you have 4 viable options imo. BOS, BFT, VIG, or SI. I find SI is my preference on the first pass because I like to stay alive a long time and influence the battle. I don't use that extra heal every game but it's often enough to make a difference in a close match that goes the distance. If you really hate planes bombing you BFT would be nice, if you find torps often killing you VIG makes sense, and if your trying to keep DOTs down use BOS.

at best you reduce your reload by 20%. I failed to see the point.

Shoot straight, make every shot count, and you won't need a faster reload.

Vigilance is not nearly as useful as people think it is.  If you're actually playing a BB semi-decently and are actively avoiding incoming shots and constantly changing up directions, you will not get hit by torps often.

WASD hacks is the best Vigilance.

15% is quite a bit, it's much easier to leave fires burning now and only putting out floods or multiple fires.

As for vigilance, you won't need it that much if you change course and speed regularly.

As a TRB-equipped Shiratsuyu once told me:

"It was like trying to hit Neo"

Adrenaline rush is one of the best skills in the game.  -20% to a 30 second reload is 6 seconds.  That's a huge change when you're putting the amount of firepower a BB has down range.

Basic Firing Training for AA boost. . . or Vigilance to spot torpedoes.

Bayern can actually have quite a stout AA rating if you boost it.  But I wouldn't specialize in it.

Here's my Bayern captain build.

  • Good AA
  • Good Secondaries (if you took the secondary range module)
  • Shrugs off damage.

You can swap BFT for Vigilance depending on which you have more of a problem with.  Torps or planes.

BoS, SI, and VG are all useful

BoS works amazingly well if you stack it with flags and the ship modification that further reduces fire duration.

Someday you will meet a Des Moines or Hindenburg at 8k on 5% health and your guns pointing the wrong way.

You will see the point. Just saying.

I would do basics of survivability or superintendent. Vigilance is ok, but you get hydro at tier 8.  The extra HP for survivaility expert is not viable for battleships, more of a gunboat dd thing.

Well, I always try to plan where I want my commander to end at 19 points, and not simply chose and hope it is right as I go. For German BBs there are two strong builds, Zombie build, which I use on my Tirpitz and Secondary build, which I use on my Bismarck.

Zombie Build:  Adrenaline Rush (2), Basics of Survivability (3), Fire Prevention (4), Expert Marksman (2), Concealment Expert (4), Incoming Fire Alert (1), Vigilance or Superintendent (3)

Secondary Build:  Manual Secondaries (4), Advanced Firing Training (4), Basic Firing Training (3), Adrenaline Rush (2), Expert Marksman (2), Vigilance (3), Incoming Fire Alert (1)

I take Incoming Fire Alert on both ships because you are often tiered up against T10s which can outrange you.  Knowing there are shells Incoming can help you dodge the long range damage.
