so, eventhou hypothetical, and un likely, but, if for some reason spruance had decided to chase the IJN forces, and at night, ran into Yamatos forces, which forces did yama have that was in the chase?

In a surface battle? Ship to ship without the benefit of air power? Hell that's not even a contest. For those who didn't click the link above, here's some of the Japanese ships present:

Yamato (!)
Nagato and Mutsu
Kongo, Hiei, Kirishima, and Haruna
Fuso and Yamashiro
Hosho
Zuiho
Mogami and Mikuma
Atago and Chokai
Myoko and Haguro
Kitakami
Yugumo, Makigumo, and Kazagumo
Kagero, Shiranui, Kuroshio, Oyashio, Hayashio, Hatsukaze, Yukikaze, Amatsukaze, Tokitsukaze, Urakaze, Isokaze, Hamakaze, Tanikaze, Nowaki, Arashi, Hagikaze, Maikaze, and Akigumo
Fubuki, Shirayuki, Hatsuyuki, Murakumo, Shirakumo, Isonami, Uranami, Ayanami, Shikinami, Asagiri, Yugiri, and Amagiri
Akatsuki
Asashio, Arashio, Asagumo, Natsugumo, Minegumo, Arare, and Kasumi

And that's just the ships whose classes are accounted for in WoWs. The Ise-class twins were there as well as Tone and Sendai, plus several more destroyers not listed above and around a dozen submarines. Compare that to Spruance's force: Pensacola, Portland, Northhampton, Atlanta, and four New Orleans for cruisers, just under two dozen destroyers, and a dozen and half subs. Plus at that point of the battle two carriers that would need protection.

If a carrier has entered the gun range of an enemy surface warship, something has gone horribly wrong (see Leyte Gulf).

At that stage of the war, with IJN night supremacy and USN surface ship inferiority, not to mention having no element of surprise?

They'd be talking about this like Custer's Last Stand for generations afterwards.
